re: Asking for time with job offers?

Take first offer and if second comes through take it. They'll understand

This is my second "real job" out of college. The thing I don't get is why HR gets so butthurt when you tell them you want a chance to evaluate your options when they could have interviewed a dozen candidates besides me. It's a two way street. I'm obviously not sending my resume out to one company at a time. One thing I feel better about with this position was it isn't posted, I just cold called and asked if I could send them my resume

only if you'd be okay staying at your current job
best of luck!

48 hours I can see. A week? I'd offer the job to my next choice.

It may not sound ethical, but you could always accept the current offer while waiting to hear back on the second offer. If you end up getting the second job, then you simply apologize to the first company and let them know that you've decided to accept a better offer.
OP don't do this.

Because if you ask for a week, they know you are job shopping.

My advice was based on the assumption that you are a new grad looking for your first job. Since that's not the case, what's the risk in passing on the offer? You didn't seek them out and it sounds like you're more interested in the second job. They'll see right through you asking for a week to discuss the offer with your family.

Meh. Between my work schedule, wife’s schedule, other responsibilities we may not get a real chance to sit down and discuss the opportunity.

Right.. Just like they are employee shopping. It's not some big secret. If it wasn't a posted job I am wagering their isn't a #2 behind me at this time, so what would the issue be in giving me until next wednesday to decide? The spots not being filled anyways, so rescinding an offer would just be out of spite for me wanting to hear my options

If you got the offer today tell them you want to talk to your family about it, but you have a wedding or some shite this weekend. Can you get back to them by the middle of the week? That will buy you enough time to get to get to Wednesday.
If they say no I'm not sure I'd want to work there anyway.

That's absolutely horrible advice.
Someone did that to us and it got leaked out to every firm in our industry in the and now he's unhirable except for the firm he currently works with

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.. don’t piss the person off willing to hire you.

Some of you ppl are insecure in your ring practices. Or work in fields with few options. I would absolutely give you a week to decide. I'd much rather you want to be here than regret it right away. Or worse, hiring you, doing a week of tedious small talk d introducing you to people and wasting time- then u walk.
Posted on 10/5/17 at 6:24 pm to BACONisMEATcandy
Then are a douche and I doubt he wants to work in your shitty plant.

Yeah a day seems ridiculously short. If they really need you, a week is fine. If they don't really need you, then I wouldn't push a week.
