Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the devastating tsunami that killed 100's of thousamds of lives. Here are some right after photos and current photos of the affected areas.
Certainly, some areas probably look better now than the day before the tsunami hit 10 years ago.

Some of the most surreal footage I've ever seen. Man, those massive waves crashing down.

Wasn't the death toll around 250k? Nuts.

There was a video posted here from the Japanese Tsunami. It was a video shot by one guy that showed the water in a little creek/river start to rise and then a total shitstorm, running onto a roof, and the town being swept away.

Frightening stuff.

The images are still so unreal.

The guy standing. He is just standing in a flat area. Maybe knee deep. Looking inland the whole time. Seems to hear the surge coming so turns at last minute. One foot of water changed to about 3 feet instantly all around him. It wipes him out and he never comes back up.

Can't believe it's been 10 years already. Remember it like it was yesterday.

Hard to imagine a more devastating natural disaster. Earthquake/tsunami detection has increased significantly since that tragedy, hopefully we'll never have to witness such loss again.

My best friend's family is from Thailand and their home in Khor Khao was completely destroyed. Luckily they weren't there at the time.

this is easily the most surreal event of my lifetime. 911 had nothing on this

i just remember the night it happened. the death estimates were like 10k, then 30k, and i wake up and it's 100k...and it goes up to like 300k

Its obviously worse than 911 but 911 was definitely more surreal for me.
