Based on some suggestions yesterday it looks like we might be taking a trip to Ashville this fall. Suggestions?

Biltmore, get your tickets now.

Mount Mitchell

How long are you going to be there?

Biltmore is a must-see. Completely incredible. Did some white water rafting up there as well.

I assume the Biltmore sells out?

Dates are flexible. I was figuring arriving on a Friday and coming home Tuesday or so.

Fixed it. I thought something didn't look right when I typed it.

Yeah, it (the Biltmore) sells out on the good weekends. Staying on campus there is cool, there's a winery there as well.

Downtown Asheville is funky, there's a Ghost Tour that's kind of fun.

Grove Park Inn. Surprisingly less expensive than I figured. That place has some history, and there is a ton of exhibits and keepsakes on display from the who's-who of 20th Century historical figures that have stayed there over the years. If you're a golfer, the course is a favorite of US Presidents. Didn't get to play when I went, we were there at night.

Manager posts here. I'm hoping he shows up in the thread, cause I'm trying to get a room for July and they are saying they're booked.

I went over the holidays to see the gingerbread house competition. Pretty amazing in itself. I could've spent a day walking around looking at all the stuff. There's a desk F.Scott Fitzgerald used to try to get over his writers block post Gatsby when he stayed there. There a picture on the wall of Harvey Firestone & Son, Thomas Edison, and Henry freakin Ford. Tell me that doesn't impress you with those four men in the same space at the same time. The golf course looked immaculate. I really want to take the wife there for a little getaway. Asheville is a pretty place.

Yup, the problem with Asheville is that it's full of Ashevillains.

Definitely have lunch at 12 Bones one day. Get there early, because the line gets insane. Get at least a few bones of the blueberry Chipotle ribs. I usually hate word flavored bbq sauces, but those are incredibly good. I don't know if they still have the caramelized onion mashed potatoes.

If you like bluegrass, Jack of the Wood had a great jam on Thursday. Free beer if you play (at least as of few years ago). I got to jam with dove really good touring artists over there.

I think New Belgium opened their brewery by now. It may be worth a tour.

Mount Mitchell is well worth the drive. Take the Blue Ridge Parkway the whole way. It's a gorgeous drive that time of year.

Good bar strip use to be on Lexington Ave. I figure it should still be kicking.

Check to see if Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain has any good shows going on. They get some great tunes over there.

My wife and I are leaving newt week for 5 days. Were doing Biltmore one day, going rafting one day and going to just spend a couple of days knocking around. I have a friend that suggested Wicked Weed and Wedge Breweries and the Addison Vineyards.

Fun Fact:

The Grove Park Inn has the National Gingerbread House contest every year around Thanksgiving.
