Absolutely and it's just ridiculous. Children are being coddled far too much.

It's more than just the media selling fear. IMO it mainly has to do with technology. We've talked about it around this board before, but the fact that we have literally instant access to every kind of news just about anywhere on the planet is the culprit. Add into that the media mainly reporting bad shite, and you have a dangerous mix of people thinking that everyone and everything is dangerous or out to get them.

Bad shite isn't really happening any more than it ever has IMO, it's just that we have more (and virtually unlimited) access to it now.

Damn, that's the first time I've genuinely gotten my feelings hurt on here. Wasn't intentional

It's happening less.

Local news is the funniest. The stated goal would seem to be to scare old white people as much as possible.

Things such as:
-kids not being safe in the park
-we fear people will break in our house at night(ADT commercials)
-someone stealing our identity
-afraid to be perceived as racist, using "hate" speech
-schools are not safe anymore
-taking shoes off at the airport
-getting ebola, cancer
-fear of death
-fearing the wrong political party will win

I don't fear any of those things, and I imagine most people out in the streets don't fear them either. Who are these "people" you refer to? It seems to me you're using the word "people" interchangeably with "mass media" or some other abstract concept. But they're hardly the same.

That sounded witty. I wondered if you had intentionally plagiarized a quote from someone else, which would've been very witty in context. ... I googled and didn't find anything, fwiw-- not on the 1st page anyway.

Of course, there's also the somewhat true idea that:

quote:

Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal. - T.S. Eliot

But that's a topic for another thread.

You need to cite your sources for "your mom" jokes.

I don't know where it is from originally but my buddy posted this on FB the other day:

quote:

clearly the argument "Only thing that stops a bad person with a gun, is a good person with a gun" does not really apply since that is not happening. Personally, I blame every billionaire. The only thing that can stop a bad person with a gun is Batman, and none of those pussies have used their money to become him yet.

and here is yours:

quote:

I blame the millionaires with dead parents who aren't taking the law into their own hands. I mean we probably have hundreds of millionares in this country who fit the Bruce Wayne criteria, and not a single Batman. fricking one percent not doing their share.

Meh, similar but not the same joke. Every joke has been done, everyone is just recycling the same shite over and over.

And just an obligatory "Simpsons did it", they actually had an episode where Mr Burns did a Batman thing.

Now take back your Mencia comment.

If real burglars are anything like the ADT burglar, we have nothing to fear. He'll just look at you and go "welp, guess I'm outta here" and run away.
