I would agree with this. I also think there are a couple that aren't really necessary. Chickenpox being the obvious example.

Why do you think that Chickenpox vaccine is not necessary? Chickenpox can be a serious disease and people who have had Chickenpox are in danger of getting Shingles for the rest of their life. Get the vaccine and you no longer have to worry. Seems like a no brainer.

Anyone that's ever had shingles will disagree with you about the chickenpox vaccine not being necessary.

Conspiracy theorists and wacko new age idiots are the anti-vacc crowd. If there is one time I'd rather be a sheep it's now.

Yes. I've done some pretty stupid shite in my life and even I'm not stupid enough to take medical advice from someone that is famous for how good she looked naked.

Anti-vaccine people need to be removed from the general population and put on an island by themselves.

Just so you know, the jury is still somewhat out on the 2nd half of your statement. Plus according to our Ped, 2 of his patients actually contracted Shingles as a result of the vaccine. It's still an extremely small % but it has occurred.

The Chicken Pox vaccine was originally developed more so for lost work time issues more than a public health concern. Many major corporations chipped in to find vaccine research to help uptime of their workers.

The true sheep in the vaccine debate are the ones who blindly follow one side or the other. The vaccine schedule was created for the general well being of the entire country and not your specific child. Sometimes strict adherence is best sometimes an alternate schedule is best.

This should be s real discussion with your Ped. If your Ped cannot answer general questions about the vaccine like timing, side effects, conditions when vaccine should be delayed, etc then you should get a new Ped.

These threads usually just piss me off bc of the bad info spewed out.

If you don't vaccinate your child bc Jenny McCarthy said so then you're an idiot. If you blindly follow a general outline w/o asking any questions about the medicine being injected into your infant child (in some cases less than a couple days old) then you are also acting somewhat recklessly.

I agree with most of what you have said in this thread.

I do not think the argument is as simple as Non-Vaccinations people do it becasue Jenny McCarthy at some point said it was bad and it causes autism vs. Vaccination people do it because doctors say they should

I think there is a lot of grey on both sides and sadly there is so much bad info out there now on both sides, that it is hard to decipher what's accurate and what is not.

I also think the majority of the people on the non vaccination side, don't care about Jenny McCarthy and have many more concerns besides autism. But those two seem to be the easy ones to discuss, because those are two the media (social media especially) has highlighted the most.

Here's an idea, establish a good rapport with your Pediatrician and get their honest opinion. You'd be amazed at what information you can get by just asking.

Here's the problem, even if you are for vaccines, you arent a Dr. And frankly, the only people I would trust with knowledge about vaccines...are Drs. My issue is everyone I've ever spoken to that was anti-vaccine would cite some articles and even some research that was published. These are the same people that if you tell them I've read articles and research that claim man made climate change is a fallacy and they say im not an expert. So in my dealings with these people, they are enormous hypocrites and you can't have a reasonable discussion with them.

Tried that with our first Ped but she didn't want to hear any of it and just towed the company line and pushed the vacs, plus she was kinda crazy anyway.

Left her and went to another in the practice is who more than willing to talk about things and understands why some people have issues and has no problem with a delayed altered schedule.

Well when you are dealing with extreme close minded people on any issue this is pretty much always the case. 90% of people on here hate the government but they are the same ones in favor of the government mandating vaccines. The hypocrisy works both ways.

Exactly the thing to do. People have to remember, you choose the Pedi not the other way around.

Trust me I know, my issue with them is they usually want nothing to do with any kid of discussion that negates their beliefs, but that pretty much goes for every tin foil hat wearing person regardless of which side they are on.

Prior to my 1st child we had a sit down with our "soon to be" Pediatrician to discuss what to expect. We discussed a number of things and vaccines were include. The Hep B caught my attention and I asked him why it was recommended right after birth. He said that was a relatively new change in the schedule at the time and when it happened the Drs weren't given much info on why it was moved up so early in schedule.

He informed me how HepB can be contracted (sexual activity is highest % which obviously is not a concern with a 1 day old) other than that it would be a freak thing especially if your kid was not to be in daycare at an extremely early age. He recommended it to be delayed to when he normally used to administer.

My wife had some vaccine concerns related to things she had read. He listened to her thoughts and had clear answers based on the vaccine research and his 20+ years as a Pediatrician. We had some concerns about multiple vaccines at 1 time in regards to if there was a side effect/reaction then how would we know the cause. He explained that we could easily alter the schedule to allow 1 vaccine at a time and still be in the ballpark time frame for being completely vaccinated. We had some concerns about the Chicken Pox vaccine and he gave us his feelings (see previous post on this).

IMO that is how the vaccine discussion should be handled.
