Jeff Davis and Lee were major historic figures in this country's history and the south in particular.

I'd rather spend the money on new monuments instead of destroying old ones.

Edit: And I probably will economically boycott New Orleans as others have posted. I'd rather spend money elsewhere.

If we want to knock down everything with a controversial past, we'd have to knock down the entire city of New Orleans.

It's a real shame. I used to like New Orleans.

In Houston alone, our majority Democrat school board has voted to rename 7 schools in the last year at a cost $1.2 million. Some of those schools were named for locally historic figures who happened to have Confederate ties as one part of their biographies, so they had to be excised and eliminated from our communal history. Activists are already calling for street renamings here. And it's happening all over the country.

After the North Carolina shooting, Jon Stewart blamed, in part, highways named after Robert E. Lee (Lee Highway is the name of two major routes, especially one through Virginia).

It's never going to end. The activists aren't going to stop when they run out of obvious targets.

I like seeing smart arse comments destroyed with a sentence of hard fact. New Orleans is indeed a poorly run city. N

New Orleans being a poorly run city isn't close to an original thought, but congrats

Don't worry, 12 million and counting other people will continue to visit and spend millions of $$$. I doubt the city will miss your $200

"From a post-Katrina high of 1,546 officers, the NOPD finished 2016 with 1,165, a net gain of five over 2015's roster. Recruitment of cadets for new academy classes continues to fall far short of the city's stated goals."

I don't think he understands that the majority of the cities money comes from people who either won't ever know about monuments or don't give a shite about monuments.

Life will go on in the Big Easy with or without the monuments. This is nothing but a blip on the radar

I'm not sure you understand that the history and "ambience" that is being removed is all that differentiates N.O. from any other cookie cutter mid-size US city, except for the general dirtiness, decrepitude and crime.

WRONG, Blacks said they built America. No one else did a thing, they built it all.

So the only thing that differentiates New Orleans from Memphis are the monuments?

Got it.

Hmm... oddly familiar to what you all said when it was first announced the statues would be coming down.

I'd say that most people in Memphis are significantly friendlier, more secure about the realities facing their city, and vastly more down to earth.
