Are there any negatives to Z rated tires, for a sports sedan.

They're basically the same price as the original equipment tires, but they are rated about 10,000 miles less. 55k vs 45k miles. Is that the only negative?

Why do you need Z rated?

They definitely won't last as long.

Probably better handling

Probably a harsher ride and noisier.

Z-job huh? If you have to ask, you can't afford it, cowboy.

handling should be better than the originals, but the ride will be stiffer, too...depends really on what you want out the tires.

I figured they'd be worse in the rain, but stop better and offer better handling. No real need for it, but they were actually almost $100 cheaper overall. Pilot sports were z rated, I guess Continental as the original equipment.

You won't get 45k out of Z rated tires.

Theyre as soft as pencil erasers.

Noisier, eh? That's no good.

The way I understand is that in general, the higher the speed rating the stiffer the sidewall, which leads to a harsher and noisier ride because more shock and vibration are transferred to the vehicle instead of being absorbed by a softer sidewall.

Making me think I should go back with the originals. I want the vehicle to handle as well as possible, but comfort is a high priority too...its for the wife's car. If it were mine I'd want to maximize handling, but I doubt she would.

Chances are they are asymmetrical too so only front to back rotations (assuming they are the same size). If you get 20k miles, consider that alot.

Z rated tires never last the mileage they claim. If you get 2/3, you're doing great, or you really drive easy.

frick no, she really lets it have it in first, but after that she shifts way too fast. Drives around town at 30 mph in 4th gear. I don't dare say shite though.

Nah, only run flats really have issues with the noise, due to the super-stiff side walls.

Even then, they aren't too bad until about midway down into the wear pattern. After that, they get really noisy.

You ever heard Swampers? When I had them on my old truck, I couldn't talk on the phone on the highway. That's noise

You put about 15K on a set of run flats on a Vette and you ain't talking on the phone either.

Why did you choose run flats over regular tires on a Vette? Are you one of those slow driving old guys?

That's what it came with. And it was a non-Z car, so no inflator kit. This was in 03-04.

I haven't put run flats on anything since and just carry a kit, if it doesn't come with one from the factory.

I rarely drive over 80-85 on the street, but I get up to speed in a heartbeat.
