This is your answer. And ironically, this is your words. Funny huh?

Here's a young woman, 36 years old, who had her entire life ahead of her and she basically threw it in the trash. For what? To break a world speed record? Now her family, friends, etc. are in mourning because she had to be selfish and try to be a hot shot.
I know that your life is yours and you can do anything you want, as long as you aren't hurting anyone, but I can't help but see this shite as selfish. There are people dying of diseases who would love to just have a healthy life to enjoy and others who are healthy just throw it all away.
I'm not a risk taker, so maybe I just don't "get it", which is fair.
You can live fast and die hard or you can pussy foot around with a boring life and die in your thirties from heart issues or cancer.

Why is there a women's land speed record? Why not just a land speed record? How are women at a disadvantage?

Then why do anything at all exciting like skiing, mountain climbing, scuba diving, or sky diving?

Neither am I but I also understand that life needs excitement.

I think play stupid games, win stupid prizes applies here.

Some people live their life involved with Motorsport. It’s a lifestyle, and they are consumed by the need to go fast. They aren’t happy unless they are going fast with their hair on fire. She went out like a boss, I bet you have never been half as fast as she did on her attempt.

You live your life the way you want; Jessi died doing what she loved doing.

I think it is dumb to try. A good % of people that try to break speed records die. But her body her choice

She liked a challenge. You admittedly do not.

Some people are just wired differently. She absolutely did not waste her life. Not trying would have been a wasted life for her.

Most of us spend our lives trying to eliminate (not just minimize) risk and live boring, mundane lives with no real payoff. That's not living.

Yes, pretty much. To do things like this you are risking your life. Same with any sport or hobby that has a high risk of failure. People have to weigh their own risks and decide if something like this is worth everything for them. Some people do spend a lot of time making that decision and preparing for the consequences to make sure their family is taken care of if the worst happens, some morons are just like screw it and let people deal with their mess.
When I started riding sportbikes on the street, I made sure I had great life and health insurance in case something happened. I made sure my family would be more than fine financially. However, their are some dickweeds that get in wrecks and then need fundraisers and other garbage to pay medical bills that aren't that high. I absolutely refuse to ever donate to a person who gets hurt in that situation. They should suffer and deal with those consequences for being so foolish.
This woman though, she made a very good living doing stuff like this and this is what she wanted to do. Yes, it was selfish, but everyone should be a somewhat selfish with the short time they have on this earth to do the things they enjoy. She really enjoyed this and I don't think she would regret her decisions. She could of died of something else just as easy in her 36 years.
Having said that, don't expect me to feel sorry or mourn for someone like this, including myself. We knew the risks and in the end it bit one of us. We died doing what we love, it's not a shame or a loss, it's the consequences of living life on the edge.

Died doing what she loved and probably had more cool experiences in her 36 years than most people who live to be 100. Thats not selfish. That's called living.

Roger, I would normally agree with you, and I understand what you are saying, but "most" people, want to live a lengthy life, have a family they can love and who loves them, and die feeling like their time on earth mattered to someone. I don't call that mundane and boring.
However, do I understand the adrenaline junkies who are never satisfied and always pushing themselves further, yes, and that is a choice they make. I get the "she died does what she loved", and I understand that, but after the funeral, I bet her family would prefer she lived a more boring life and was still around.
I see it both ways, but overall, I choose the boring I suppose. It's not that boring to me.

As a 36 year old woman all she had to look forward to was grandkids. And if she was into lesbian hobbies like sports she probably didn’t have kids

They can't drive as fast because they are constantly checking their makeup in the mirror.

The problem is, people who are wired for adventure and risk believe it is boring and mundane. Just like most of us are compelled to work in the machine and have family, these people are compelled and driven for adventure.
I lost a friend in a winter climbing accident a year and a half ago, he felt worthless without pushing the limits higher and higher. He was driven to do so.

Just watch Free Solo. The answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no. They dont have death wishes per say. They are searching for the best process and experience possible. It isnt for everyone and I wouldn't do it. But to live life without risks is living life within one room. And hopefully that room doesnt catch fire.
