The SS has the perfect sprocket setup for me. Cruising speed is 17.5mph. Considered getting a 29er, but I'm a small person. It was just too big for me.

Because riding a bike with your wife and getting exercise is for the gheys right? Get over yourself. I ride my bike as often as possible. It's not brutal on my knees like running is.

Or I don't like sitting and traffic or I don't like getting DUIs or I like exercising.

Sabi,

If you are looking for 2 decent road bikes, it will probably run about $1,000-$1,200 brand new. Best bet though is to go on CraigsList and buy them second hand from someone who took care of their bike. Road biking is the best workout I have found. It burns calories, works your entire body, is easy to do, no pressure on the knees or ankles, and its fun to get out and take in the scenery. When I lived off Brightside I would ride from my place to Lauberge to the Belle through LSU to the Lakes then head bck to Brightside. Would ride about 20-30 miles in an hour and a half. Talk about burning some calories! I bought a Raleigh Road Sport off CraigsList almost new for $250 when it retails for $800. When first getting into biking, go CL.

Seems really large, you must have long appendages. I'm 5'10" and ride a 54cm.

I wouldn't agree with that. Legs, core, cardio. I don't find biking does anything for upper body.

It's a hipster thing. I met some friends last week at a bar downtown not knowing its a hipster bar. There were probably 15 10 speeds parked out there. All ratty looking 25 year old bikes they brought back to life.
I freaking hate pop culture. We live in a shitty time amongst some stupid people.

Man I still got my 10 speed Schwinn from 1983.
I think I paid $75 on clearance, so I guess I got my money's worth.
