They are just so damn expensive now. I go to bike shops and see used ones for like $400-600. That's insane.

Actually pretty cheap if it is a decent bike.

Most of what you are seeing around college campuses are mostly cheap fixies or single speeds but their popular because they look cool with deep-v wheels and silly color schemes. Usually for short social rides or something terrible like Critical Mass.

I ride a single speed around town but its all custom with nice parts. No shitty colors, just black and chrome. Plus I actually put down some miles.

The thing is I want to get two for my wife and I, and I'm not going to drop 1,200 to 1,500 on two bikes.

You looking to just cruise a few miles around the neighborhood together? If so, yeah, you don't need to spend that much. A couple of $400 bikes from the bike shop would work for that.

Lulz. I spent that much on tires at the beginning of the season.

or, you don't like taking 20 minutes to walk to class and instead choose it to only take 5 minutes

Yea, the 10-speeds aka English Racer is back in style....but only if it's steel.

I ride my bike around town all the time. Great to bar hop on a bike in Dallas where car parking spaces are tough to find.

You can't ride one of those on LSU's campus. The roads and sidewalks are too jacked up. I ride a mountain bike

people who ride bikes on campus are assholes. They ride way too fricking fast past groups of people.

Why would I ride my mountain bike in the city? It's a mountain bike.

The roads and sidewalks are so jacked up and filled with pot holes, I've ridden many mountain trails smoother than the paths around LSU. Trust me, it's necessary. Sadly, stupidly, necessary.
