A Team Industrial Services truck on Thursday lost a camera containing radioactive materials on Interstate 10 between La. 30 and the St. James Parish Line, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The loss was discovered at about 10:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Emergency crews are in the area, so drivers will see some delays.
“I’m predicting we’re going to find the camera,” said Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies in patrol cars, on foot and on motorcycles “are covering from La. 30 to the St. James Parish line. That’s the area we’re looking at right now,” Webre said at approximately 11 a.m.

“The camera is called an industrial radiography exposure device. They use it for x-raying wells, things like that,” said Greg Langley, press secretary with the Office of the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
“It does have a small nuclear source in it, but it’s sealed and it’s inside a sealed container and shielded container,” he said.
The device is locked, Langley said.
“We recommend that if any of the public encounter something like this, just don’t touch it and call 911 immediately,” he said.

More dose will be picked up out in the sun than what this camera would hit em with.

You have 0 clue what you are saying..

Many of the "lost source" accidents commented on by the International Atomic Energy Agency involve radiography equipment. Lost source accidents have the potential to cause a considerable loss of human life. One scenario is that a passerby finds the radiography source and not knowing what it is, takes it home.[4] The person shortly afterwards becomes ill and dies as a result of the radiation dose. The source remains in their home where it continues to irradiate other members of the household.[5] Such an event occurred in March 1984 in Casablanca, Morocco. This is related to the more famous Goiânia accident, where a related chain of events caused members of the public to be exposed to radiation sources.

I'd call an industrial inspection company and pull a cash transaction. I don't know what the going rate for one of those, but equipment like that is never under $2,000.

That's what they want you to think. Probably just some high profile's camera with nudes on it.

I've never dealt with the camera that x-rays welds, so I'm not sure either, but I'd be willing to bet you'd have to add another "0" to that number.
I know PMI testing devices are close to 6 figures.

I was thinking the same thing
Most modern surveying equipment is upwards of 30-50K and much higher
An X-ray camera or whatever is probably a lot more

If the source was exposed they would have found this thing already.
Little need to be worried at this point.
The price of losing the camera is negligible, their license is going to be in serious jeopardy.

The "camera" is solid lead and weighs about 70lbs. It has a crank and and inside of it is a radioactive "pig tail" or "pill". I highly doubt it was damaged.

Usually with these pieces of equipment, you can't move it until the shutter is closed and locked.
But I agree, there is little to be worried about.
ETA: not physically move it, but by rule/regulation/standards.

Usually with these pieces of equipment, by rule/regulation/standards you also secure them in the truck so you don't lose them. People frick up.
