Appropriate attire for spectators at a golf tournament

I picked up some tickets to the Open on Sunday and this will be the first golf tournament I've ever attended. Is this solid advice?

Wear neutral colors and nothing flashy.
Solid colors look better than loud stripes or prints.
Tuck in your shirt and wear a belt.
Don't advertise your favorite sports team on your shirt or hat.
Resist the temptation to wear your golf spikes.

Khakis or khaki shorts and a polo

Comfortable shoes, shorts (no cargos that's not FAF), polo shirt.
John Daly disagrees
No need to
Why not?

Thanks. I assume boat shoes are a no go since there will not be any boats around?

Dress like you would to play golf, sans the shoes

A golf hat or sunglasses. Could be a hat from a course or of a brand. Don't wear a flat bill ATL hat.
Golf shirt (small stripes or solid polo) tucked in to khakis or navy shorts.
Short socks or sperry style shoes.
I normally wear my golf shoes when I walk, primarily because I go play golf right after I leave. Also, their comfortable and are soft spikes, so it's my like I'm wearing dryjoys out there.

You can wear boat shoes. I just wouldn't want to wear them for the amount of walking you will be doing. If you are comfortable in them then they are okay

Boat shoes are fine as long as you know you will be comfortable in them standing and walking a lot.

I see nothing wrong with an LSU golf hat or polo.
