Was sitting back watching tv and I hear a click and the clothes dryer stops running. Go to the breaker box and the breaker for the dryer is tripped. Flip it back on and turn the dryer on, it starts running but I hear a clicking sound coming from the dryer plug. I have turned off the breaker to the dryer and unplugged it. I have no clue what to do from here.

It's drawing too many Amps. A heat limiting sensor may have malfunctioned or maybe the motor or bearings are going out.

I just bought a new one after keeping the old one on life support for years. When it throws big breakers, who want to worry about burning the house down?

Sears has good specials all the time.

But the misses will probably stab you if that's her only gift.

ETA: need pics of wife to determine proper dryer rec.

Then you wouldn't call them "specials".

I just replaced mine. Sears sells this high heat limiter as a kit with a thermostat. I paid $36 at the Sears parts store, but I saw some as cheap as $24 online.

It's a pretty easy fix. Lots of how-to videos on YouTube. If you find you can't do it, you've only wasted $36.

turn off breaker, either your plug or your cord is bad. I would have a professional check it out. Call an electrician before you call an appliance man. An appliance man can change the cord, not the outlet.

there are three heat limiting devices on all dryers, no way all three fail closed, ever. They fail open all the time, but not all three because one fails and a system cuts out (be it the heat or the motor) . Failing closed is very rare and no way all three would fail. You have two thermostats on the heat source and a thermal fuse on the exhaust with a limiting thermostat. Just too many safety systems for them all to malfunction.

Poping from an outlet sounds like a bad outlet or more specifically a bad connection in an outlet.
this video explains it

Also to the guy who said thermal kits. Best prices are on Amazon and you get the factory stuff, not the Supco parts. (or you can get Supco, just no 1-year warranty) The eletric thermal kits are $17, the fuses are $3 the gas thermals are $19 and the belts are $3-8. (plus most are prime)

When the motor bearings fail the start switch fails to engage and the motor just hums, the roller are support bearings generate a ton of noise when failing, but other than belt damage or pulley wheel damage I don't think that would be the cause.

His symptoms are a noise from the outlet box and popped breakers.

the noise is coming from the outlet, when does an outlet ever make noise unless there is arcing inside the outlet?
