I've called several banks and it seems they do not seem to have machines. My time is simply too precious to roll them up, as evidenced by the content of this post and the fact I'm here in the first place.

Thanks

Coin counting machines at a credit union are the best way. If I remember correctly they only charge somewhere around 2% if you are a member. Still haven't found a bank that doesn't charge for that, which sucks because I'll pick up every penny off the ground and save all my change.

I wonder if one of the casinos around has a coin counting machine? I think most slot machines are automated now

Coinstar, unplug the ethernet cable out of the back and it won't charge the fee. Or just get the amazon gift card and it won't charge the fee.

Not to have them rolled, but to turn the coins into cash. The machine prints out a receipt at the CU you can turn in. The CU keeps more if you are not a member.

I did this around 5 years ago at the Chase bank on Drusilla.

eta: if i recall correctly... they took my box of coins away. Then they deposited the amount a few days later. I think they were actually brought to another location to be counted. I had counted them beforehand so i knew the amount I was giving away too.

yeah, misuse of words on my part but still, that's a pretty stiff penalty for changing money, probably not talking a great amount here, just the principle of the thing

This may have changed since then. They used to ship all the loose coins in a plastic bag to the main vault/cashiering, but I believe they all have to be rolled now.

Not all of them, Chase no longer does it. They got rid of their machines. Said they were too expensive to maintain.
