Does anyone know another number to call besides the one listed for the OMV?

The lady I spoke with said there was nothing anyone could do to help at the OMV besides tell me how large of a fine I had to pay.

I got the same letter this week. They say my insurance lapsed back in April, which it didn't. Can't exactly get to a DMV as I live in Oregon, and if the OMV is just going to say I have to pay a fine for something that didn't happen, this will be one big pain in the arse this week.

I say sit tight.

I'm sure this has stirred up a hornet's nest. I'm betting politicians are hearing it right now. I'm hoping somebody leans on them and tells them to lighten up.

I've gotten notices for 3 vehicles.

So far...

Got one as well. The only thing I can figure is it is from when my husband and I combined our car insurance to save money but there was no lapse in his coverage, he was just added to my policy. It was even with the same insurance company. They seem to have really blown it with this. I just dread having to call and try to deal with it. If they are getting tons of calls then maybe they will back off easily.

I'm hoping that they back off. Just think of all the people that moved out of state and have no idea a letter was sent to an address that they may have moved 10+ years ago.

I asked the operator at the OMV if there was any proof that a first letter was sent to my parents address such as certified mail or a signature required upon receipt since nobody recalls receiving such a letter. I was told that it doesn't matter if the letter actually made it to the residence, just the fact that the state sent one.

I have the fine down to $128. What a cluster frick. I haven't lived in the state in 15 years and because I didn't respond to a letter they claim to have sent to an address I didn't live at the time 14 years ago I owe a $125 fine.

Bobby Jindal has bankrupted the state and is shaking down current and prior residents as a desperate attempt to raise money. frick that a-hole. What a disappointing human being.

What did they reduce yours based on?

I think they were "nice" enough to reduce it to the original fine instead of the extra penalties and interest adding up to the $576. I'm out of state my dad is retired and has been nice enough to handle talking to the OMV for me.

i went to the DMV a week before i recieved this bill in the mail. and they told me i had to show the bill of sale of my old truck "which had the insurance lap" and it would all be cleared up. THE DMV would not let me get my new drivers license until it was cleared up.....

I don't understand why I got a fine when I showed complete insurance.

I switched insurance to cover my truck in Texas. I then got all the appropriate things in TX to register my vehicle there.

You have to get TX insurance and state inspection before any of that...don't see why LA would fine people for that?

I even got my insurance agent to call them. No idea of the outcome of that.

At least it's nice to know I'm not the only one this happened to.

My situation is different because I cancelled insurance on a motorcycle that has not worked in 2 years. 2 years later, last week, I get a notice in the mail saying I owe about $600 for not turning in the plate. I never received a notice requiring it to be turned in, and the bike still has not moved.

The fine is for failure to turn in license plates. It's a gotcha move by the state to increase revenue.

For me the problem is that I turned in the plates but the dmv did not record the transaction and I didn't keep a receipt from 4 years ago.

I can't turn in plates because I am out of state. I will be able to turn in my plate when I make it back to LA.

How else can you do it? Mail? It doesn't make sense. Say I lived in California...do I drive to the California DMV from LA get my plates, put those on, then drive back to the LA DMV to give them my LA plates then drive back to CA? NO!

I forfeited my LA state license. They didn't ask for the plate too.

The fine is for not responding to the letter they claim to have sent. They are clearly lying and made up a "sent letter record" in the state system in order to justify the fines.

I guess I'm waiting around for one of these letters to make it my way. I moved out of state a year ago. I never informed LA I didn't need their plate anymore. Hell, I think it's still sitting in my trunk from where I changed it out to TN tags. Though at this rate, it might be another decade before I receive the letter.

My god state gov't is just as worthless as the Feds.

And all these goddamn flyers for these crooked arse politicians, killing trees to make a bunch of shite that will go directly into the Garbage can.

frick them! frick them all in their stupid asses!

I hope someone collects all the "delinquent plates", melts tbem into a huge ball, and smashes into the OMV.

I've never in my life met a more worthless bunch than that. I would rather frick an ant pile than deal with their 2 hours on goddamn hold to talk to an incompetent boob who is ultimately worthless.

Seriously, I hope whatever person that came up with this scheme has horrible things happen to them.

I hope they contract a horrid disease on their genitals.
I hope they stub their toe every time they get up to go to the bathroom.

I hope All their pets die on Christmas morning.
