This!!! If you want a specific breed, or a dog for a specific purpose (hunting, guide...) you are better off going to a breeder. If you just want a dog, but are not overly specific adoption/rescue works great. Some of the rescue places even let you come in and play with/walk several dogs before bringing them home.

We got ours from a shelter. He was saved from a terrible fate and was a great dog for us for many years.

Its been like that. They have been popular long enough to now have variants (Mini Goldendoodle).
The new "hip" breed is French Bulldog if you want to know.

I can count on one hand how many golden doodles I've seen in Nola/BR before the last couple of years. Now they're everywhere.

We are on our 2nd Goldendoodle from them and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality dog. Friends have Goldens from them and they are just as good as our Doodles.

I have a 1 1/2 year old Golden and before buying him, I did a ton of research (including speaking with someone at GRCA) and most of it pointed me away from Hunnington Farms as well as the other larger breeders in LA. Several people I spoke with had or knew of dogs that had issues with cancer from Hunnington so avoiding them was a no brainer. I ended up getting mine from a breeder near Birmingham and have been very happy.

If you are looking for a breeder closer to SE LA, Runnymede Kennels or and Glamis Goldens in Pass Christian, MS. Rhythm Goldens in Enterprise, MS is another great breeder.

Whatever you do, make sure you get clear health certificates on the parents (heart, hips, and eyes) and a clear pedigree.

Lol, where did I say if the OP or anyone else bought a dog?

GTFO with your "virtue signaling" bullshite

I'm just saying people with the same thought process as the dude I quoted are the same type of people who push a dog out of the car in a busy parking lot because they gave up on trying to train it after 2 hours

I don't care if you spend $2000 on a dog as long as you take care of it

Don’t know much at all about Brittany. I see it’s a good hunting dog. What about family dog? Good with kids? Is there a breeder in La you would recommend?

It’s not the dog, it’s the owner. Train, Don’t complain.

We have done breeder twice with mixed results. Both our dogs now are rescues and they are awesome. We will never do breeder dogs again. Too many good dogs out there needing homes.

Yeah but stupid dogs exist. They just require lots more routine and overlay.

Bump.

Curious if those with pups from hunnington continued to have good luck a few years in.

We had two Golden’s from HF (now have one who is 7). Other one died of aggressive form of cancer that came on quick at age 6. Great dogs other than that.

Edit to say we got one in 2016 (died 2022). Other we got in 2017, still going strong.

Easily one of the dumbest takes in OT, and that's saying a lot...

We have a golden retriever (fluffy cream color) that is 2.5 yrs from HF. She is the funniest, cutest and sweetest dog we have ever had…. and we have had a number of rescue dogs through the years that were special in their own way. She is a great dog and I could not be happier to have her as part of the family
