Playing golf at La Centera in a few weeks. Anybody have insight to the course, specifically which is better out of the 2? (The Palmer or The Resort)

Based on the few pictures I've seen looks fairly open with a lot of changes in elevation.

Played the Palmer course and it was great. Haven't played the resort course yet, but people tell me that the Palmer is the better of the two.

Played Palmer in college. Easily one of the better layouts I've ever played. I recall walking up 18 with my dad counting our top 18 holes we had ever played, and the Palmer course was well represented.

Iirc, it wasn't very long, but was well maintained.

No, but I live 5 minutes from there--pass by it every day on loop 1604 on my way to work and have to take my wife to the Shops at La Cantera to shop all the time

One of my college buddies played there last October and said it was decently challenging all around, but he preferred the Palmer if he had to pick one.

Whatever that means--I'm no golfer Seemed like a good time, though.

Played resort a couple of years ago. Me and me bro got paired up with a 40 something and his old man. They partied too hard the night before and the old man was throwing up every other hole. Course was beautiful. Nothing I've played in this area comes close to the elevation changes it has. The bluffs is the closest but the resort course just has way more. Would play again.

Yes... played back in HS the week before the VTO, whichever course it was played on is the one we did. Lots of elevation, sand everywhere, very long but very forgiving.

Greens are tough, though probably not that fast at the moment I'd imagine.

If you are a single digit handicap you should be able to shoot below 85. It's challenging, but not absurd to the point being unfair and gimmicky like some places.

I don't play golf but my wife and I took a stroll around the resort course last September and it was lovely. Some wildlife and cactus. Such a pleasant change in topography from Louisiana.

i played one of them about 12 or so years ago--pretty sure it was the resort course but not positive. it was a good course.

i think the palmer course is more highly rated. isn't it the former host of the texas valero open?

Palmer course is very cool. Some elevation challenges and unconventional fairways. Greenso were in excellent shape when I played 2 yrs ago.

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like I'll plan on playing Palmer. My Hdcp is about 95 so I normally enjoy the scenery more than the golf

I have played the Palmer Course and the Resort Course back in March 2015. Both are amazing but the Palmer Course was slightly better. The Palmer Course had slightly better layout. More hills as well. Hole #18 at the Palmer Course was spectacular. What really sets the Palmer Course apart from alot of courses I have played is the landscape. Rocks, waterfalls, great grass. The people were fantastic as well. Have a great time if you decide to go!
