Know several people who have been to South Africa and loved it.

Botswana is a great place - though really expensive.

If you are interested in a safari, I recommend Sofala Safari in South Africa. The head guide and owner, Louis, is married to a girl from Mississippi. Great guy and great family coupled with great land.

LINK

Though not Africa, really close, if you are interested in something nearby, I recommend the Seychelles Islands. Possibly the prettiest place on earth - laid back - incredible flats fishing for GTs and Bonefish.

It'd be cool to go fishing off the coast of South Africa

I've been to Egypt. Pretty great experience but probably not what you are talking about.

This may not have been how you meant it at all, but I just pictured some dumb arse redneck (not necessarily you) saying, "It's way different than the south bro. Just go to Destin instead".

My dad spent 6 months there. I had a chance to fly to Cairo back in 2008 and went to Istanbul instead. Kind of regret it with how shite hit the fan shortly afterwards.

When did you go?

Most of the people I met were nice. I dealt mainly w/ military people. The most common thing I heard that really stuck out was how many of them told me that they wanted their children to move somewhere else (America/Europe) to have a better life.

For people with nothing they really don't complain much. We gave them all kinds of shite... Camelbacks, uniform stuff, and they LOVED the MRE's.

I've been to Israel and should probably go to Egypt some day, but I already know so much about it that it probably wouldn't be a neat as other places

Well there is quite a few people on this board who seem afraid of their own shadow.

Africa was high on our list for our honeymoon so I researched it pretty thoroughly. Ended up choosing Thailand and Cambodia this December.

So I'm not much of a Destin fanatic.

I understand that my family had a rough trip FROM there to here.

And, despite many "invitations" to return. I've decided against it

Depends where. Some of the most dangerous waters in the world are off of that coast.

That's really cool. I worked with orphans in Rwanda. A lot of their stories are awful but they still smile and move on with life. It puts a lot into perspective for a privileged American like myself

Going see Angkor Wat? Which part of Thailand you going to Phuket or up north around Chang Mai. I would suggest not staying in Bangkok too long.

Two days in Bangkok and a few in Siem Reap. About a week on Ko Yao Noi.

As a straight, cis-gender, exterior white male who self identifies as African American, I thank you for visiting my Mother Land.
