Anyone live in or consider a Tiny House?

Being able to move a house with relative ease is attractive. The 200 square ft ones are way too small but 400 Sq ft might me reasonable for a couple.

All depends on what area you are parked.
I could easily do it by myself, but I would need attractive surroundings.

400 is still too small. 700-800 is more reasonable.

Buying a used mobile home is cheaper and gives you more room than buying a 400 sq ft. Tiny House.

Yeah, I feel like I would need to be on a beach, in the mountains, or on a lake/in the country. Being able to move it is pretty powerful.
Most cost around 50k so it would be the cost of renting a parking spot... Probably $800/month or cheaper which isnt bad. No property tax.

living in a camper is nothing new...sure, it will save some money, but it is not something that most people could stand for very long.

I think the key would be location and spending as little time in the house as possible. It could allow you to live places you otherwise could not afford.

I see them pop up around NOLA every now and then. Stay for a few weeks then move on.
As a cheap way to experience the country it would be pretty cool. It appears most people just rent a lot/driveway for a few weeks.

550 but have a dry basement for storage and laundry. Have a yard too and patios front and back.
But it's just me and my dog, so don't need a lot of space.
I would love to have more space, can't even afford another 1 bedroom place in SF anymore

The tiny house on a trailer thing is crazy but living in a smaller economical house is understandable and will happen more and more if real estate keeps outpacing earnings unless people stupidly take out 50-year mortgages. I think 500-600 sq ft, give or take, would be what a couple would need and not want to blow their brains out.

The extreme version is the people on the west cost that buy a small truck and live out of it. There was a recent story about a Tesla employee that ate the free food, used the company showers and gym, and parked on site in the parking lot. Now that.... I don't think I could do. It was a 100 Sq ft truck.

agreed. that's plenty of space for a single person/couple with a dog. kids may complicate things

Why is a tiny house on a trailer crazy? It adds height so that lofts are more livable. I find them much more custom than RVs.

I agree the tiny house on a trailer will go away but I think people downsizing houses won't simply go away because RE prices continue to soar and rapidly outpace earnings in many areas. There will still be people that overextend and pay those prices, but there will be a lot of people that look at alternatives including micro houses or whatever you want to call them.

It was a Google employee, unless there was another story recently. Which there easily could have been. But the rest of the point is spot on.
