High school counselor invented the little tab on the middle of some brands of shoes on the toe that pulls it forward with laces.

Neighbors kid down the block patented the silicon handle for yeti tumblers and sold it to them

My great uncle invented the Chicago Sunroof but never got any royalties. He flies into a rage anytime he hears Vince Gilligan's name.

No. No, no, not 6. I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel

I know the guy who invented the hair socks or booms used to clean up oil spills. He was a hairdresser when he got the idea. Well, actually my folks know him. I just know him through them.

My mom's cousin is married to a guy who holds a bunch of medical patents. If you work in the medical field you most likely use their lab testing products. Their net worth is in the nine figure range or close to it. Other than a nice house and a good bit of travel they don't live real extravagantly.

ETA they used to test the products with their own blood samples. I was scared to visit them as a kid because they might ask me to give blood.

My Uncle invented the circuit that saves your progress due to unexpected shutdown when he worked for Texas Instruments. Since he did it using their equipment, facilities, and products the patent belongs to them. He did get an award and a $10k bonus though. (this was back in the late 80's/early 90's)

Moral of the story:: If you're gonna invent something, don't do it at work.

A friend’s grandfather was the politician Dudley Leblanc who invented Hadacol. If you’re not old enough to remember, it was basically akin to a snake oil that had vitamins and was 12% alcohol.

One of my dad’s friend’s grandpa invented the Higgins boat. I assume they made and are still making a bit of money.

That’s the truth. If you wanna see an interesting story on how patents work look up the story behind Gatorade. It was done in the University’s lab with government grant money during the scientist free time.

Ruff Hewn and Buccaneer Slacks

I don’t think anyone is going to remember those, though.
