If so, what type did you try and did you see any benefits? I've been hearing a lot about the health benefits of doing meditation and better control over stress.

It will help with insomnia. It taught me how to get my mind to empty and relax for sleep.

I got a book called "how to meditate." It was good.

It's a great practice. Clear your mind of all distractions and learn to be at one with the universe. Great stuff.

No, it's not. The mind is like a muscle. If you can't bench 315 the first time you try, you don't call lifting weights useless. You work at t for a while and get stronger by exercising.

I can't do it...always end up catching a boner because my mind wanders off to some hot chick that I saw or something like that...

I try to spend 30 minutes a day in silence. It may be a few smaller sessions rather than 1 large chunk of time. I drive for work a lot, so often I'll turn off the radio and phone. I don't concentrate on anything, but rather just let my thoughts play out. I've been doing it for a year now and I can say with certify that it helps.

Use a app on my phone to help get to sleep quicker, Brain Wave.....always use the meditation sound rather than the sleep induction one.

I'm usually out in less than 5 minutes

I've been practicing since I was eight - off & on - Transcendental Meditation. As pointed out earlier, it's like working out, you get better if you don't skip and take the time to quiet your mind for 20-30 minutes. Once or even better, twice a day.

I can feel my pulse slowing, breathing getting shallower and drifting away while still hearing everything.

Definitely check out a recommended book or two. I was taught by a guru who lived with us for maybe a month. It was a long time ago so I'm sure I've forgotten some of the better tips.

Before bed, in the best case scenario, I drift off to sleep but it really should be done earlier in the evening and sitting upright. I just don't have the time.

Definitely go to meditation classes. They are filled with young women who seek male affirmation. Firm male affirmation.

No, it isn't. Meditation has been proven to make structural changes in the brain. In areas typically responsible for compassion, for instance. Also has been linked to increased cortical thickness.

Yep, it takes time to learn to do it for very long but if you keep at it, it becomes easier and I have found that it calms me and allows me to not want to choke people.
