Received a job offer there that pays $22,000 more than what I’m making now. It’s not about the money to be honest, but the quality of living. I’ve always loved the city and have visited quite a few times. I have until the end of the year to make a decision and I believe my course in Baton Rouge is about done. I love this city but it’s turned into a shithole that is no longer safe to raise a family.

Pros/Cons of moving there?

Seems like an easy decision if you don't have other family anchoring you to where you are

Move there yesterday.

Louisiana has too many problems right now with politics, finances, crime, education, etc. The pros are that you'll find it has better everything except food, but you'll always find good food somewhere. The people in Tennessee are still southern and very friendly and welcoming. There is also the aquarium there, you are not far from Atlanta down 75 or even the Smokey Mountains. If you like seasons, you will also experience actual fall color and some snow in the winter, but typically not enough to need a shovel.

Get ready for the next step and experience a different place. It pays more to boot.

Thanks. It’s more of reassurance to myself I guess. My father is kind of giving me a hard time about it but he understands. He’s the only immediate family member I have left in the state with me.

The job offer is obviously better. The money is better. The housing there is a lot better. I actually sold my house here not too long ago and moved into a cheaper condo to save a ton of money.

I’m ready for a life change. Baton Rouge really has left me no choice. My profession here would be nothing but lateral moves maybe a dollar here or there increase but nothing worth it.

Whites have seen a flight (like every major city in the south) of about a third moving to the burbs.

There’s some gentrification going on near the river I saw last time I was there, but that’ll be very slow going because of the foundries/factories on the river. But the city is damned beautiful nestled in with a big beautiful river cutting through it and does have some nice and high end suburbs near.

And like others have said, it's close to other major cities and areas of interest (Smokies, Atlanta, Blue Mountains, Rock City, etc.). Were I to get the OP’s offer, I’d accept tomorrow and ask how soon I could start. No doubt.

Highly likely I'm moving there soon as well. Got a major job opportunity over there where I'd quite literally be tripling my current income just in base. Still a month or two off, but I that is the most likely relocation where I will be after my patience of bullshite corporate realignment.

Agreed. I’ve neer felt unsafe when I went to Chattanooga. Always had a great time and the people were very friendly also.

When I’m out and about in Baton Rouge, I’m constantly checking my surroundings which is sad.

It's only an hour from the best school in the South (which makes it the best school in America), Sewanee, the University of the South.

TN = no state income taxes - with that 22k raise you will feel like you are making 30k more - do you really need to be asking for advice.

Chattanooga is awesome honestly...take the job if you like the people you will be working with.

I live here. It's an amazing city and an awesome place to live. It's close to a lot of places and you'll never run out of things to do. Chattanooga is a great place to raise a family. Really the only con I can think of is the roads are pure shite. Gangs are kind of a problem but you'll be perfectly fine if you stay out of the bad areas.

No state income tax. Add that to your salary. 4 seasons with phenomenal topography. Central location. Incredible small town clean downtown vibe. A city absolutely growing smartly and in the right direction. You’d be a fool to stay in Baton Rouge.

I'd move there tomorrow if I could.

I feel like Chattanooga is about to blow up big time.

Do it. Chattanooga is pretty great and also in a convenient location for day trips.

we moved from br to Raleigh this summer. I had a few family members give me schitt but it has been good so far. kids have a great brand new school and are slowly making new friends. quality of life is much better outside of br. tons of outdoor activities if you are into that. and if you are single, the women this way are fairly attractive.

I line in Chattanooga. It's a good little town. Decent restaurant scene thanks to the hipsters. Great outdoor life.

What company?

Also, we have a large population of fat rednecks and bama fans. A lot of those "top 50" lists name Chattanooga as the unhealthiest city in the country. How that is possible with the outdoor activities here, I have no idea.
