When you say he underwent surgery, are you saying they stabilized his neck?
If that is so, and he can breathe as well as move his hands and feet, he is damn lucky. I had a stroke and can tell you, that you would not believe what the human brain can do. It will figure out ways around any damaged nerves. If he can make it past ICU, he will have a long row to hoe, but can get a lot better over the next few years.

Friend,
Your brother is in our prayers. The CT appears to show grade four spondylolisthesis (or in some categorizations grade five or spondyloptosis) at C6 with a probable ligamentous injury and possible posterior fracture. I would assume an MRI will be performed to give a more detailed impression of spinal cord injury. The CT alone is likely not enough to determine the extent of the spinal cord injury, and it is encouraging to read that someone saw his toe move as everything from the hand down, excluding things innervated by the phrenic nerve such as the diaphragm, would be at risk with that level of the injury. Ultimately, these are questions for your brother’s neurosurgeon.
May God be with your brother during this pneumonia, which is the pressing issue right now. Know that many of your friends on the OT will be praying without ceasing for you and your family.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Good friend broke his neck after falling off a deer stand. Has some residual pain but works a blue collar job.

Update as of today.
My brother is still on the ventilator. He is scheduled to have a trach put in today if his peep level gets to 10.
He has been having trouble fighting pneumonia. His oxygen level dropped so far he had trouble with his heart. They have been pulling out mucus plugs almost daily.
The good news is the doctors removed the neck brace and he has full movement of his neck. Turns 90 degrees in both direction and nods up and down. He has full movement in his arms. He has trouble gripping anything as of now. He has said he had some feeling in his legs but that is not the main concern right now.
Still praying that this miracle comes through.
The doctors and nurses at University have been incredible!!

So sorry to hear, I lost my father at Christmas, that seems to make it even worse. I'm sure he knew that having a brother who cared as much as you do, was a blessing in itself.

Lifted your family up in prayer. Sorry for your loss.
Tough time of year to lose someone. My father passed on this date...56 years ago.
