re: Anyone here have LASIK?

I had 20/20 vision until I was 25 and in law school, and they have gotten progressively worse every year since (like -4 in both eyes bad). My eye doctor says it is from staring at a computer screen and reading small print all day. My question is this: did anyone who has had LASIK have this same issue before surgery? I'm worried if I get LASIK but keep the same job staring at a computer that in 10 more years my eyes will have deteriorated back to where they are now. Anyone discussed this with their doctor before LASIK?

I was fine that evening. Best money I ever spent. Tempurdpedic is a close second.
I went from -4.75 in contacts to better than 20/20.
I had mine done after law school. My vision was shite before law school and got worse during. It's been 10 years since I had it done and I stare at a computer or read all day and my vision has not deteriorated since the procedure.

I had mine about 10 years ago and it was pretty cheap. I used my HSA and got a 20% discount. I don't remember the surgery. I'm a light weight when it comes to drugs. I was out and then after I got home, I slept another 8 hours. I am about 20/20 (just aced my eye exam for my Texas license). I am a bit more sensitive to light. But nothing too horrible. I'm glad I did it and it was way worth the money. Totally recommend it to everybody..

I had it done about 5 years ago, better than 20/20 still and I noticed much better vision a as soon as I got up off the table. Could have easily been good enough to drive had it not been for the Valium. My mother got the same surgery in her 60's and now she only needs glasses for reading.

Mine was only about 7 years ago.

My doc said if you have it to correct nearsightedness and are over 40, you will need reading glasses. I didn't need them right away, but I did within a year or so. No big deal. That happens to almost everyone if they live long enough.
My correction was not perfect right away. Had dry eyes and not quite the sharp vision I wanted. Did the enhancement a few months out, and vision became perfect.
After that, I was very sensitive to light, and it took about a year to go away. Needed sunglasses to check the mail on a cloudy day. I also had some ghosting when looking at digital clocks, but that has gone away too over the years.the dry eyes eased up with time, but I was putting drops in like a mofo for quite a while.
My experience had more bugs than most accounts, but I'd still do it again. Getting rid of glasses is worth it,
There is a bulletin board called laser eyes or something like that. Has a lot of accounts from folks who have had lasik and similar procedures.

I had awful vision. Got lasiks 7 years ago in Shreveport. Surgery was very quick, finished at 12pm.
Friend brought me home. Picked up Popeyes on the way.
Asleep for 1pm.
Woke up at 6 pm and had perfect vision.
Been that way since.
Best thing I ever did for myself.
Honest question though, would you recommend it to someone?
I ask that because I had Lasik done about 10 years ago and still maintain slightly better than 20/20 using both eyes and right around 20/20 in each eye but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I say this because it was a really freaky procedure and a very personal choice. I work outside and the dust was wreaking havoc with my contacts and I love to wear sunglasses while outdoors so Lasik was my next option.

I have thin corneas so they did a procedure called epi lasik on me. The doc said the recovery time would be a lot longer, but the results would be better and last longer than regular lasik. It's been almost 4 years and I still say the best money I've ever spent.
As far as recovery, I had it done on a Friday. Was blind as a bat Friday and Saturday. Could see a little bit on Sunday. Went back in Monday for a checkup and they said I was at 20/50. By Wednesday I was 20/30, and the following Monday I was at 20/15. Had a lot of pain and burning Saturday and Sunday. They gave me numbing drops, but said the more I used them, the longer the recovery would be, so I didn't use them at all.
All that being said, I'll reiterate that it was some of the best money I've ever spent

Had it done 4 years ago. Best decision ever. My only problem now is that needing glasses masked the fact that I had chronic dry eye because the glasses fixed my vision. Now that my eyes are fixed I need artificial eye drop tears to clear everything up. Even if I don't take them though, I can still see pretty good.

Would liketo check into it but I am really really squeamish about my eyes.
I see these billboards advertising LASIK for $300 or $500 and think to myself "If I ever have this done, I am not gonna go with the low bidder."

Correct. Do not go with the low bidder.
Ask around. Spend as much as it takes to get the best. Then go for it.

I want this done but is it true they wont do it if your vision is still changing? Mine doesn't change drastically but my prescription changes slightly every couple of years or so. Also, will they not operate since I am diabetic? I am type II (not a fattie) but blood sugars are not out of control. I would love to get this done one day but don't want to have it wear off after a few years, although a few years of not wearing glasses/contacts might be worth it.

how much does this stuff cost for someone with slight astigmatism. ANd far sighted

had it done a few summers ago. I couldn't open my eyes a few minutes following the surgery they were watering so bad and very mild irritation that afternoon. next morning everything was clear, it is amazing.
I always was scared a zombie apocalypse would happen before i had it done and i would die because i ran out of contacts. now bring it on.
only side effect for me is my eyes would get really tired looking at my phone for an extended period of time and that was never a problem before. I think that has improved because it is not near as bad as it used to be

If you have a health care reimbursement account, get started planning now. If you are a candidate, schedule it for early January. Make your 2016 HCRA election and put enough money in to pay for it.
I did that and was reimbursed in January before ithe money even came out of my paychecks. No income tax paid on that money.
