Any experiences to share? Was it worth it? What are the pluses and minuses? My ophthalmologist thinks I would be a good candidate, but I'm not thrilled about having eye surgery and am hesitant about the cost, but sure would love to not have to wear glasses or contacts anymore.

Just do it. It's worth it and not a big deal.

Where is O-Town, people can recommend a good place for you. I wouldn't get it done in Opelousas though.

I had it about 10 years ago. I'm now wearing glasses again, though it is only because of one eye. If only monocles would come back into fashion I'd be fine. Surgery itself is painless. Might feel a little scratchiness in the eyes for a day or 2 but other than that it was nothing.

Got it done about 8 years ago. Completely worth every penny.

Best decision I've ever made after wearing contacts/glasses for 15+ years. It's so quick you won't even know what happened. The initial few hours right after is the worst comfort wise but you'll wake up feeling fine the next morning and your vision will already be clearing.

Had it done 9-10 years ago.

Do it! It's the best money you will ever spend.

Now that being said - mine has "faded" a bit, and the wife who had hers at the same time now wears reading glasses. Everyone's vision gets worse with age - I'm pushing 50.

I think the only real consideration is if you're female and planning to have kids - vision can change more. I know a few people who had it and had dry eyes for a while - but the trade off of contacts/glasses for a few weeks/months of eye drops is a no brainer.

Yeah, probably not . I'm in Orlando. There is a very good Lasik center here. My eye doc highly recommends him. How much should I expect to have to pay?

I'm pushing 50 now and that is one of my concerns is that will I still have to wear reading glasses? I asked my doc about it and he said they could to the 'mono' vision thing where they correct one eye for distance and the other for reading. I don't know about that. I have the mono vision in contacts and I'm not sure my feeble brain has gotten used to that.

I'm planning on getting it, but I have cataracts (I'm 26 years old). Doctor told me it was pointless to get it before having cataracts surgery .

Had it in 2000. No issues and it was painless.

I wear OTC readers for really small print but otherwise nada.

You have to like your choices there over being in Opelousas.

I did not have it done, but my doctor did.

He said it was a great decision.

The only advice he gave was to go to an outfit that only does Lasik surgery. Check out reviews and get as much information you can before you make your decision.

Maybe some of the people who had it done can share.

You may need reading glasses - one day. But probably not for a few years. Don't know what you're dealing with now - but for me contacts never worked well due to my astigmatism, and glasses were a pain, and not usable for some of my sports activities.

My guess, is that you will be good without readers for a good while. Wife pulls hers readers out in restaurants to read menus - I'm still good unless it's really dark.

Yes. You will still need reading glasses unless you do a monovision LASIK correction. If you are having any trouble with monovision contacts I'd be very hesitant to have monovision LASIK

Dr. Jeffery Singer in Metairie did mine about a year ago. Went from contacts with -5.50 Rx to better than 20/20. They had 12 month interest free financing on it when I did it, so made cost part easier.

There are no minuses...all pluses. Day of surgery, just need someone to drive you home. Before the surgery they write you Rx for sleeping pills (think it was Ambien) and some Rx eye drops. They put anesthetic eye drops in before surgery and I didn't feel anything, just felt like a bright light in my eye. But once those anesthetic drops wear off your eye will be itchy as hell....which is why they tell you take the Ambien. Sleep it off for the rest of the day. I ended up waking up in the middle of the night, felt OK, took another Ambien and slept until the next day. Next day I was driving myself around, back at work, and felt completely normal
