Surgery should be the last resort. I had bad external roids and got them lanced a few times by my pcp but they kept coming back. Finally went ahead with the surgery. Pure hell for a week or 2. But that was a year and a half ago and they have not come back.

It fuggin sucks. I felt like I was shatting razor blades every time before and it hurt a 1000 times worse after the surgery for at least 4 weeks. And the pain meds don't really help. It basically rips open each time you drop a deuce.

I would not do the surgery unless the roids are really affecting your way of life. If you only get them once a year and they don't cause you pain when you walk, you are better off just living with them. Surgery is terrible. It was bad for my wife too.

The first practice I ever managed was a colorectals office.

I would always tell you to try every conservative means neccessary prior to the hemorrhoidectomy. Change diet, restrict your "throne time", exercise, increae fiber, etc...

The typical American male and his diet is just a hemorrhoid waiting to happen. And this may sound VERY strange...but cell phones have resulted in more hemorrhoids. A toilet seat is the absolute worst place to sit, and people now use the shitter to escape everything b/c they can bring their phone with them. Sitting on a toilet seat a long time, combined with the straining since we all eat predominantly red meat and no fiber, causes hemorrhoids if you are even slightly overweight.

Regarding the surgery, it's not a comfortable recovery, and it's not even guarranteed to work. If your habits suck and don't change, your hemorrhoids will come back.

If you find a surgeon who perfroms a LIFT procedure as opposed to a standdard hemorrhoidectomy, the recovery will be a little easier.

Not sure from your post what exact surgery is recommended. If the H's are external, then he has to get cut. But if they're internal roids, then he may qualify for the "banding" procedure (google it).

I had this and it is not bad. The rubber band stays inside you and cuts off circulation to the roid. It dies and comes off in about 1-3 weeks. The first day they band there is some soreness, like a bad bruise up inside your anus, but no "razor" blade type pain. Soaking in a hot tub provides great relief. After a few days the soreness goes away and you don't even know when the thing falls off and you pass it out. Have him ask his doc if this is an option.

An excellent option if available.

Understatement of the year. It was pure hell for 2 weeks. You didn't want to get constipated but shitting was the absolute worst experience of my life.

I had internal ones removed in September. They gave me 2 options. They can band them and they fall off but they can come back or just cut them out. I had the surgery.

When I talk about it I say if I'd knew it'd be that bad after I woulda just dealt with them.

For about 3 weeks it's a struggle but the first 5 days were horrible. I got 90 vicodin but if you take them you get stopped up. I had to time it to where I'd wake up take 2 or 3 right away and then cry on the toilet. I then sit in a hot bath for a couple hours.

The first shite you take may make you pass out. I wish I had a better experience to share but I don't. I went through the pain pills in about 7 and half days

Guy I know had it in October. Took a couple of months for him to be even close to normal. As said previously, the recovery was grueling. He now says he would have tried to rectify them in any other way possibly prior to having surgery.

standing up was not part of my lifestyle for about 2 weeks. laying down or tryin to sit on a donut was about it

when I went for a check up after 2 weeks I sat in my car for about 10 minutes after and felt like I had been raped
