Tulane, Rice, Wash U, or Lawrence and Clark for example? What was your experience like? How was it different from state schools? What was the education like? The career services? The social dynamics and girls? Kind of people, Sports and general vibe? Always wondered what going to those schools compared to LSU would have been like.

What dictates a smaller private school? Like less than 5,000 students?

I went to Loyola for a year before LSU (4 years at LSU) and also got my MBA at Loyola. During this time, I dated a couple of Tulane girls. I liked the feel of the Tulane groups - the kids were mostly all eastern/wealthy, lots of Jews as the stereotype goes.

I enjoyed their parties and discussions a lot more than the ones I had with my peers at LSU. More intellectual, political, etc. etc. Maybe this isn't a true apples to apples comparison, but it was my experience. They still partied a lot - but it was at uptown and swankier hotel bars instead of college dive bars like LSU. More house/apartment parties than LSU kids had, as well.

Also, a lot more drug use at Tulane - adderall both studiously and partying, coke, ecstacy, etc. There are pockets at LSU but it was far more mainstream at Tulane than it was at LSU or even Loyola (and WAY more openly discussed).

Oh, one other thing... At LSU even in the frat/sorority scene it seems more cutthroat socially. Guys (even "friends") will cut you off or cockblock you more than the Northeastern guys. Friends at LSU don't seem as generous with buying rounds, seem to "keep track" of who owes what, etc. very intently. Tulane kids are super fast to accept you into the circle (which seems counter-intuitive) and will include you in the rounds and not keep track. It seemed way more chill and laid back. I'm probably not giving a fair representation here but again - it was my experience. I just liked the Tulane crowd a ton.

I went to LSU for undergrad and grad school at Mississippi College. I think it qualifies as smaller private college.

What was the education like?

Well the medical science master degree program there has close to a 100% admittance to medical school or PA school rate and it got me into medical school.

quote:

The career services?

Easier to access and better than LSU.

The social dynamics and girls?

The social dynamics sucked because Clinton Ms is the definition of f**ked Baptist Bible belt town. However the girls were sluts that either failed out of Ole Miss or tried to use going to a Christian school as cover for being a sloot.

Sports and general vibe?

Sucked. They were transitioning from D3 to D2 when I was there, and I think the football team won 3 games in the 2 years I was there.

Boring as hell and I don't know how anyone chooses it for undergrad, but different strokes for different folk. Plus maybe if I had gone to MC for undergrad I would not have had bad grades at LSU.

Went to William Carey College in Mississippi to play soccer. It was alright. It's a private baptist college. Tried to say we had to go some worship services every Wednesday. It was a pass/ fail thing. I didn't pass

Since you didn't answer my question, I'll just assume that I can count Baylor (enrollment of close to 12,000 when I was there).

Honestly didn't like it very much. Was somewhat forced into going, wanted to go to LSU, but the out-of-state made it more than going to Baylor and I received a large scholarship so there wasn't much choice.

What was the education like?

Intense. I never studied in high school and found out real quick that I was going to have to be in the library almost every single night. I learned a lot though and don't regret it.

Had two semesters of chapel and two semesters of religion class. Sucked balls.

Money literally everywhere. I grew up in the middle class never wanting anything, but I was literally one of the least wealthy people I knew there. Everyone drove a BMW, Benz or F-250 that was new or 1-2 years old. I also had several friends with Range Rovers. I received $1,000 a month to get by on in college and I had some friends who had to 'get by' on $5-7K a month.

Girls weren't much different. It was an ongoing joke about how girls were there to get their MRS. degree more than anything else.

Drug use was somewhat rampant. Had a lot of friends who did molly and cocaine a decent amount. I smoked pot more than anything else and also did adderall a good amount.

Sports

I was there when RG3 was so Baylor still wasn't that good, but everything was shifting. The women's bball team was one of the best ever and the guys went on multiple deep runs in the NCAA tournament which was fun.

My sister goes to Chapman, so I can relay what she has told me. A lot of these apply to most liberal arts colleges.

It is fun, but there really is a limited amount of like-minded people. Generally relaxed vibe though.

She's never been to a state school, but is considering switching to UGA after she gets her 30 hrs this semester. She doesn't really like the people and has a lot of school spirit, which they do not.

She went to a really good NO private school, and got lots of AP credit. She says the classes are very easy.

Hasn't gone to career services

Much more girls that guys, but she says the guys are all pussies over there (Orange, CA), and she has zero interest in them.

People looked down on her because she was from Louisiana when she tried to join sororities. Herself and another girlfriend from an extremely prominent New Orleans family tried to get into the same sorority, but got denied. They had more money, better grades, and about 10x more extracurriculars than everyone else in the sorority. Tri Delt begged both of them to join, and wanted to fastrack my sister to a leadership role. Actives and former members would randomly come up to both of them on campus and ask them to join (after they didn't pledge). They didn't because they didn't want to be tri delts, and are entertaining starting a Chi O chapter there.

No sorority or fraternity houses.

Sports are meh. People generally don't care about them unless they play or are directly linked to someone who does. Free sporting events.

Town is really nice, but surrounded by shite. Housing is God awful expensive.

I spent my freshman year at Centenary in Shreveport.

Getting to play college tennis was fun; just about everything else was kinda shite.

I know I am bout to get bashed but, yes.

Xavier University of New Orleans. Totally different from LSU or any other HBCU.

1:6 male to female ratio.

Most of the sciences ie chem and bio were taught buy nuns.

Books had to be bought at XU bookstore could not go to amazon. Xavier had their own edition for every book except the bedford reader. This allowed them to charge insane amounts for books.

Could not have visitation from the opposite sex in the freshman dorms.

Could not have a car as a freshman

No football.

I only saw/heard about 4 fights happening when I was there.

Parking was a nightmare. On averaged I got towed 2 twice a semester and received about 10 tickets a semester.

School had a very close knit family environment. You would see someone you never talked to but you would know their name and they would know yours. And if you happened to see this person outside of school you would 9 times out of 10 go up to them and ask didn't you go to Xavier?

Why would you get bashed?

Didn't go, but I worked a lot at Xavier this past year. I liked the atmosphere and lots of pretty girls. Nice people on staff.
I was appalled at the books given special display at the library. Very political black-centric liberation theology white guilt socialist/Marxist.

Anyway, seemed like an OK school to me.

Rice has, what, 6,000 students total?! That's pretty small.
