They look extremely painful. But I don’t know the difference in dynamics between that and a really bad, extreme headache.

Had them in my late teens to late 20s.

Worst pain imaginable, makes you totally incapacitated. I had to miss Nolan Ryans 5th no hitter because of one..

Lasted about three days, I could feel it pop or break when it ended. Behind the left eye.

I had them for a number of months in the late 80s.

When I had them I had to stay in a dark room with a cold compress on my head and NO ONE could come within 5 feet of me.

I was given a drug called Cafergot that made them go away. I asked my doctor what caused them and what made them go away. He said he really did not know and that they could come back at anytime. Since it’s almost 40 years now I feel safe. But I would not wish them on anyone.

ETA: After getting home tonight I looked up the drug Cafergot. It isn't used for cluster headaches or migraines anymore. If I recall correctly, I was told to take one tablet once I felt a cluster headache coming on and then take one every half hour (up to 6) until the headache went away. After that I was to take the number of tablets I took to make the headache go away at one time. I think my number was 4. It worked for me but I hope that medicine has gotten more effective since I had cluster headaches. My best to all who suffer these miserable headaches.

I've had them for about 12 years. Started psilocybin therapy about 4 years ago and it has all but eliminated my cluster and migraine headaches. It's been life changing.

Look into 5G poisoning. That's a textbook symptom.

I can’t remember the last time I got a normal headache… but I’ve heard those compared to taking an ice pick to the eyeball so that’s a hard no thanks from me.

I get them probably once every few months. Start around the same time every day for about a week.
Was prescribed some shitty nasal spray and some Valium. Guess which one actually works.

I have on 2 different occasions. Same time everyday for a week or little more. Everytime I just upped my water intake and they stopped. Pretty miserable.

Felt like someone stabbing me with a soldering iron

I have literally never heard of this. But I don't get headaches. Or hangovers. Weird, I know. Sounds painful AF reading the replies though.

I have 2 types; 1) ice pick through back left side of my head coming out my left eye and 2) a ten penny nail being hammered into my head. They are excruciating.

Been dealing with them most of my life. Had very few the last 5 years. Beer was a major contributor to mine.

Seriously, what's that like and who do you go see to get that prescription?

There was a two or three year period when I was a kid (probably 9-12 years) where I would get them once or twice a month. Basically all I could do was curl up in a cool, dark room and try to sleep. I remember a handful of times of being in so much pain I'd puke. I don't recall ever going to the doctor for them; I guess I just outgrew them.

I used to sell a drug for migraine and cluster headaches - Imitrex. Been a while but I doubt it’s still around and the injection was a good treatment for cluster headaches. Cluster headaches are much different than migraines. They come on quickly, last for shorter periods of time and the pain is beyond intense. That’s why an injection was beneficial- fast onset of treatment. Predominately in males and if remember correctly, more common in the late 20s and beyond. I remember talking to neurologists that had maybe seen one female throughout their entire practice with clusters. Also, sad to say that suicide is a definite concern with cluster headache sufferers. Migraines and clusters are a lot different, especially pain wise.

Just had one end yesterday. Can feel the remnants of it today but I'll take this over that extreme pain any day. It's almost incapacitating.

Yes. Look into hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It brought me relief.

I was originally diagnosed with them but now think I was misdiagnosed and actually have occipital neuralgia. Mine start severe in the left base of my head and wrap around to the left eye. Some of the worse ones will make it near impossible to see out that left eye. They are worse at night and can get so bad I can't function. I may have them everyday for a week and then not again for months, or just one random day every week. Nothing has been able to truly give any relief when they come on, although my wife thinks I did better while seeing the chiropractor.
