Anyone here ever rode or drove on the tail of the dragon (US 129)?

Did it last Thursday for the first time. Was always on my bucket list. Now that I've done it, don't really care if I ever do it again. But glad I did it.

Congrats!!
Been Riding Motorcycles for 32 years. I have not been able to make to the "Tail" yet...
Still part of my bucket list....
So.... What kind of bike did you have.... seriously.

How about you klrstix? You should ride the tail once in your life.

First time I rode it, we just called it Deal's Gap, circa 1988. Great fun back then, just hardcore sport riders and racers, best of all NO cruisers.
These days, it's completely clogged up with "bikers" and squids who think they are fast. I've been twice in the last 10 years, the absolute best time to ride it, is on a week night.

So many other great roads in the area, I'd rather not get hit head-on by some black t-shirt wearing, land barge pilot who can't stay on his side of the road.

No but I've done Black Bear Pass during the rain. Hours of white knuckles and cursing.

There were lots of squids there. But I hit it at just the right time. Dude on a gold wing was in front of me. He was good and I had no desire to go faster than he was going. He was dragging metal.

Did it in a suburban on the way to go meet my best friend who just got helicoptered out of the woods to Knoxville when he broke his neck. Brakes were very hot and smoking when I stopped at the next gas station. Rotors were glowing

September 1989 for me, I lost count of the deer trying not to hit them or drive off the side and be a Spring 1990 discovery.
Cool drive. In the same league as PCH or the Hawai'i Belt Road.
