I wasn't in a gang but a couple of older kids down the road were. Grew up on Long Island and there were a few latino gang members living in a house about 1/4 mile from me.

They called themselves the "Strong Island Boys"

One night they had a party with about 100 people showing up in our neighborhood. Sexy chicks walking down the street, lots of drugs and noise that night. Police chased them off.

They once met a rival gang at night on a football field and did their own version of braveheart style fighting with knives, bats, and tasers. I was 13 at the time and obviously didnt see the fight but some of those guys came back FRICKED up. One had a laceration along the entire top of his skull

One of the guys pointed a sawed off shotgun at me once when I smarted off to him

The gangmembers wound up catching charges for drugs and were incarcerated by the time I moved out at 15. I remember one of them got sent back for violating his parole when he was caught stealing a burrito from the 7-11

Neighborhoods in NY are not like subdivisions here in LA. Most of my town had open-grid style neighborhoods with no HOAs

this website has a description of the gang LINK
