Workout bros, I have a confession: I have strayed from 5/3/1 due to finals. Your boy will be back on the 5/3/1 pain train shortly.

That is all

You can always retake failed classes next semester. Missing days, or God forbid, weeks in the gym???????

You're dancing with the devil

But, for real. You spent every waking moment studying/class/work? Bull shite. You have an hour to workout.

How is everyone doing? Did the ocean get back in the groove?

I just got 280 x6 on the squat yesterday. About to finish week 3 of cycle three of the 5.3.1. The 1+ days are starting to feel like real work

How is the wendler crew doing this spring/summer? What kind of sick gains are we seeing?

After the suggestion of you and a few others, I started working the Starting Strength Program..
For instance yesterday I was able to do my last set of deadlifts at 235.
Doesn't sound like much but when I started the program I could barely deadlift 170.
I'm seeing similar gains in all my lifts.

There really isn't quad work in this program. Squats isn't really "quad work"

I accessorize with front squats and thrusters to work quads and mobility.

I like 5-3-1 but I felt like I got more work and results from starting strength

I'm moving in a few weeks and I'm considering Wendler's since I'll be losing my workout partner. What I really like about it is that because you're basing your sets as a percentage of 90% of your max it allows for one to have a safer independent workout. I really hate asking for a spotter and so hopefully I'd only need to get one for the last set on bench to let me push myself.

The past three weeks I have been trying the Wendler's workout for deadlifts and shoulder presses. Thus far, everything feels way too light, but I do like testing myself on the final set.

I suspect that the workout gets much more challenging after about 4-6 months.

I'm in last workout of the 4th 4-week cycle and I have gotten stronger...you are right...you start lower and it feel too light the first couple months but the idea is continued progress over a long period. I'm looking at where I'll be 12 months in. I think I can keepoving forward without having to reset...

Well, hopefully I'll be able to give some actual feedback in a few months then.

Update on progress after 16 weeks (4 periods)

I'm doing the original 5.3 1 and using a version of triumvirate for assistance...4 days per week. I have not missed any workouts and I am doing the deload weeks every 4th week.

BENCH: from 210 to 230 x6
SQUAT: from 250 to 290x6
OHP: from 90 to 110 x11
DEADLift: from 190 to 230x6

I started a bit lighter on OHP and DL because I hadn't done much of those before....overall I'm really happy and my body is feeling great after 16 weeks. This program so far delivers what it says if you follow it.
