Holy shite baws I woke up in bad shape this morning. The smallest bit of pressure on my back, left teeth feels like I'm stabbing an icepick directly into my gums/teeth.

I've taken Excedrin, magnesium citrate and I'm using a mouthguard I picked up from walgreens at 3:30 this morning when I couldn't go back to sleep.

Any other suggestions? I am trying to get in with my dentist today, but they don't know if they will be able to fit me in today and I leave to go out of town at 4:00.

The mouthguard worked pretty good for me.

Get a mouth guard to prevent further damage. As for the current issue, all you can do is keep popping Aleve and let the dentist do his thing

ETA: Lol apparently I pissed off someone. All of my past posts from now have one downvote

Some googling told me that magnesium was a common OTC remedy for clenching. No idea if it will actually work.

If the teeth themselves are sensitive from the clinching, advil is the only thing that'll help until they settle down. Hopefully its just an irritated PDL ligament and not a developing endodontic problem or fractured tooth.

Hell yeah I do. It sucks. I even clench my teeth when I'm awake if I'm stressed or angry. I'll go stretches where I won't seem to do it as bad and quit wearing my night guard, but then one morning as you've described and I'm back wearing it every night for awhile. It cost 400 bucks at the dentist but I now see them at Wal Greens for around $20 or so. You should try one.

Yep, been wearing a mouth guard since I was a teenager. Almost ground my teeth down to stubs lol. Now, they are permanently sensitive, and I've worn away all the cartilage between my jawbone and skull. It's sore and painful sometimes, and my jaw pops a lot, but there's not much you can do for it outside of expensive (not covered by insurance) surgery.

My god have I. If you don't take anything else from this thread, take this: DEAL WITH THAT shite PROFESSIONALLY NOW.

I went years with a major grinding problem that I really didn't know about other than waking up with a slight headache or sore jaw. It would quickly go away.

Apparently, I am quite the prolific grinder.

Because I never went to a dentist about it ( I had good, clean teeth and no cavities, so I rarely went), I managed to grind all of teeth down into shite. I am 30 with the wear of a 50'year old from grinding.

It's embarrassing and preventable. A mouth guard would have saved me a lot of headaches, literally and figuratively.

For you mouth guard wearers, is there a considerable difference between the $30 ones from Walgreens and the $3 athletic mouth guards from the sporting goods store?

No need to buy the $30 variety OR the athletic mouth guard. Just go for the generic Target 2-pack for $15. I tried the athletic guard for a while, but it is too bulky and uncomfortable to sleep with.

They are usually a little thinner and more comfortable than the athletic mouth guards. However, you could probably get used to an athletic mouth guard and it would accomplish the same thing.

Dentist will make you a custom mouthpiece.
100% better than drugstore.

Look for youtube how to massage jaw muscles inside and out. Warm. Massage. Cold. 3 x an evening.
Maybe
Get certified pro pt person to demo once.

Massage will do it if you keep it up.

Like tai chi. Never miss.

I didn't find this to be true. First $400 mouth guard fitted for me I chewed through in about 6 months. Second $400 mouth guard that was a harder material ended up cracking and breaking in about 6 months. Went to walmart and got the $20 mouth guard and I've had it well over a year and not close to chewing through it yet.
Don't waste your money getting one from the dentist.

I bet none of the broken teeth posters learned massage for all the jaw muscles. A couple are very painful. Work it.
