Two friends and I are planning a fishing/gambling trip to Costa Rica in May. We plan on staying at the famous Cocal hotel and casino in Jaco. They say its usually 4 to 1 tica's to guys in the bar. Around 200-250 tica's there on the weekends. True most of them are bar girls you can take to your room for 2 hours for 80-100 bucks. Ive read some are very beautiful. We are all single so we dgaf.
Jaco has some of the best blue water fishing in the world I'm told. Any of you guys been? Looking for some do's and do nots and any tips to make the most of our trip. Would really like to hear from anyone who has chartered a fishing trip. Already checked on the flight and its around $460 round trip out of Monroe. I was thinking it would be alot more.

HogBalls,
I used to fish there a couple of times a year.
Check my location.
ETA: Let me know how to get in touch with you, and I can provide you with lots of info and get you in touch with a couple of captains.

Deep sea fishing is awesome. Surfing is good too, if you are into that.
Your dollars will go a long way down there, and if you are a pot smoker and staying in a nice hotel, get your valet parker or bellhop to hook you up with some good quality weed.
Careful if you decide to do one of those jungle zipline tours--whole lot of poisonous creepy-crawlies out in the jungle. In addition, wear plenty of insect repellent. Mosquitos transmit botfly larvae, and those are no fun at all.

I've been to Jaco once, on a company incentive trip. It was all inclusive so I drank shitty liquor all week, a surfer dude sold us several oz of yayo, and I cheated on my gf with a 19 yr old chick from ASU. One of the best vacations in my life.
I can't tell you much about Jaco other than you are spot on with the hookers. Half our company was banging those girls every night.
Oh, and black sand.

Twice. Tamarindo and Puerto Viejo. Great country. I'd definitely brush up on basic Spanish. And like anywhere else, avoid any sketch areas. Enjoy!

I spent a month in Costa Rica with a rental Jeep and we drove to every desirable city in that country. We never went to Jaco.

Best vacation I have ever done. I stayed in Los Sueños, which is close to Jaco. Jaco is a little seedier, but in a good way. Better surf too.
And I am not sure if the Beatle Bar is still open, but if it is, that's the holy grail of bars you are talking about. They fly girls in from South America every weekend.

I was just the not too long ago. Girlfriend's dad lives there...right next door to that hotel I believe. Is that the new one? They were just about finished building it when we were there. The fishing was great. I'll try to find pictures. I'm busy right now but can answer questions a little later.
ETA: Nvm, I think I was thinking of Croc's. That's her dad's condo.

Cheap good looking women of ill repute.

Was there for ten days in January.
Cocal is the epicenter. There are women there
everyday after lunch. Night it is packed around
the pool/casino. Take your time. There is plenty to choose from. Don't fall in love.
Try the Copa Cabana hotel. It is clothing optional, swinger spot. Interesting options.
Food is pricier than you would think. The better deals are on the side streets off the main drag. Ask where the locals eat.
Massages for $30 and $40 abound. Great place to relax. Anything goes in Jaco.
The weekends are wild as the girls come down from the neighboring hillside cities and of course, San Jose, the big city.
Volacanic sand is black with red and pink stones.

Costa Rica is feasible, but Panama is preferred. Bocas Del Toro is amazingly beautiful and cheap.

Boys, I'm really appreciating all this great info! I would be lying if I said all this doesn't have me drooling.

Don't book a fishing trip til you get there. Hang out at the marina and talk to people. See what they're catching.
Do some research but I don't think may is best for fishing there

I surfed Nosara and Tamanrindo. Will do it again many times over. Costa Rica is a special place.

May is the beginning of the rain season in CR. You can probably expect a short rain almost every afternoon. It is just the beginning of the rain season though, so it shouldn't be too bad.
I spent two weeks in Tamarindo in July and it was like clockwork - a daily rain between noon and 2PM that would last an hour or two each day. I ended up using the rain as my lunch time every day. Hit the beach ever day in the late morning for a couple of hours, duck into the closest bar/restaurant during the rain for lunch & to swallow down a few Imperials, then get back to the beach after the rain.

I'd be careful at cocal. Reviews online report some shady stuff. May just want to book nearby and just share a room at the casino for a night or two. CR craiglist has lots of rentals. There's also a best western close by.
