I have experience. They get really attached to the male in the family. You must socialize from an early age or a potential lawsuit awaits you down the road. They are wary of anyone outside the immediate family but early socialization and a strong hand will help immensely. If (as a puppy) he growls at you or shows any sign of toy aggression, you must plant him on his back hard and say NO! You are not the dog whisperer, be the Alpha and your Cane should do fine. Do not get a Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, or a Presa Canario for your first attempt at owning a man stopper. They (Cane's) are very cool dogs indeed and live about 10 years in good health. Buy the best dog food you can and supplement with fish oil to ensure the joints and hips stay mobile and helps him/her age gracefully. I went to a kennel in New Jersey that had 150 lib Cane's that looked more like a cross with a Neo. They can get that big but at 130 lbs are very very impressive. They are awesome animals, enjoy!

Theyre in the mastiff family. Mastiffs are amazing dogs. Love mine

This is all great to hear. Thanks for all of the advice. I'll keep it in mind.

Great dogs but like all bully-ish breeds, their personality, in terms of other animals, can change drastically around 3 yrs old, especially females.

"Change drastically" as in get meaner?

As long as you do your research, which I'm sure you have, you'll be fine. Good luck.

Thanks SabiDojo. You're always very supportive of my endeavors. I would think you were secretly one of my friends in real life who knows my username, but I can't think of anyone that is a South Alabama fan.

Hmm, good to know
I would still rather short hair getting on my coat than long hair. I never had a problem with my boxer's hair. I don't think I'll be getting any of the dogs that "don't shed". I've looked into them and don't like any of them. Plus, my brother and sister both have poodle mixes because of the supposed lack of shedding, and I really don't notice a huge reduction in how much they shed.

Female Cane Corso are very protective when they mature . They can become dog aggressive if provoked by another dog. My adult has had two issues with this but it was due to my younger corso be a dumbass and getting into trouble at the dog park.

Excellent, I appreciate the suggestions. Two more dogs I will look into.

OK, feel free to answer as many or as few as you want.

How much exercise to you feel is necessary? Hours per day or week? What kind of exercise do you do?

Are they friendly enough with other dogs to take them to a dog park?

Did you have a lot of experience training dogs before owning these two or was learning beforehand and as you went adequate?

Have they caused any or a lot of damage to you home when you had to leave them alone? What is the longest you tend to leave them alone?

If you went away on a trip, would you feel comfortable dropping them off at one of those doggy daycare places?

Other than the fish oil recommended in a previous post, do you do anything to help prevent health issues arising that they are commonly get?

Have they ever attacked anyone or anything?

Why do you get leery?

Have just seen lots of people run out and get a particular breed because they have decided they are cool or badass without doing any research at all.

But you seem to be doing your research

"meaner" could be one way to describe it. they have the potential to become animal aggressive, especially females with other females. I plan to own one in the next few years, almost picked one up last year. A girl i know from the park picked up a blue female off Clist for 20 bucks. Probably the prettiest dog I have ever seen. Super well behaved but you have to stay on top of them.

Ahhh gotcha, that's understandably leery

I find that's a lot people these days with anything. When they want it, they want it now.

This is my Corso:

[/img]

He is very protective of every member of my family. I have small kids and he is very gentle with them, and lays down whenever they get close to him. He is scary athletic. He weighs 140 lbs, and can jump 5 feet in the air with ease. We have been doing bite work, and all the guys wearing the sleeve say he hits like a freight train. They are an amazing breed, but be prepared to foot the bill for vet and food. He eats 5 cups of dry food a day, I feed him Diamond extreme athlete. Plus, I give him a pound of chicken backs a day.

I am happy to answer any questions and to help point you at some good breeders if you are interested.

Where did you learn how to do this/what does this entail?

Wow, do you have to cook the chicken?

I am a police officer, and I work with the K-9 guys. But, there are clubs if you do the research.

No, the chicken is raw.

I can't seem to figure out how to make my picture show up.

I have a pet door to my back yard and both have unlimited access to the inside and out side. They usually are running around play most of the day. I still walk my adult every night as I am trying to keep weight off her.

Are they friendly enough with other dogs to take them to a dog park? As an adult, females can get dog aggressive. Don't believe this is an issue with males.

Did you have a lot of experience training dogs before owning these two or was learning beforehand and as you went adequate? I owned a presa canario before these and learned a lot of training the hard way with her. These two have been a breeze. Key is start early before the get to developed.

Have they caused any or a lot of damage to you home when you had to leave them alone? What is the longest you tend to leave them alone? I can leave my adult as long as I need to. She has never damaged anything but her own toys . The puppy is a little different. She has chewed on shoes and a rug.

If you went away on a trip, would you feel comfortable dropping them off at one of those doggy daycare places? I boarded my puppy last weekend. No issues. I would not board my adult due to the handlers not being able to handle her is a aggressive issue can up with another dog.

Other than the fish oil recommended in a previous post, do you do anything to help prevent health issues arising that they are commonly get? High end dog food and exercise. Keep the weight down as they are a already large, very muscular breed that has a high pain tolerance. They can injure a hip or knee easily.

Have they ever attacked anyone or anything?
Never shown aggression towards humans other than barking.

It was there when I first saw your response, but now it seems to be gone.

ETA: Has he interacted with your K-9 units? How does he behave?

Wow, thanks for answering all my questions. You have been a HUGE help. I'd need some compelling evidence to start looking into a new breed at this point.

He is awesome around other dogs. He is not at all dog aggressive. But, I have socialized the hell out of him.

I would be more than happy to email you some links and answer some questions if you want. I did 2 years worth of research before I bought mine. Happy to pass on what I've learned.
