Been to a couple of shotgun weddings where everyone seemed happy, but not usual wedding day happy. Lots of polite smiles from the families.

Of all that you said, what most leads you to believe their relationship is a farce?

I don't know that I've been to a wedding that was a farce in the sense of the marriage not working, but I did stand in a wedding for a girl that was one of our best friends (in my group of girlfriends). She converted to an EXTREMELY conservative religious group (no shoulders showing, long skirts, no haircuts, no makeup, etc.) after being probably the most rambunctious of our group. In high school, she had huge speakers in her trunk and bumped ghetto music and dated a guy who was known to be very into drugs.. etc.
She loves her husband, but it was odd to take in. When she met him, he came out and drank with us so we thought nothing of it. But when his family wouldn't allow them to see one another because she wasn't Pentecostal, she converted and they got married... and I basically haven't seen her since. This was 5-6 years ago.
She invited me to her baby shower last night, actually.

I knew you were talking about Pennies before I read the next paragraph.

One...old friend who we now know is bi-polar but then was just seen as wild or moody at times. She married a guy from an Old South kind of family--proper, mannered, really nice guy. Her eccentricities didn't fit with that at all. I felt sorry for the guy because I knew it wouldn't last. They made it a year.
Another disaster but this one I missed was the wedding of my childhood friend's younger sister. Everyone knew that one would end badly. Guy was abusive and she had to call the cops on him the week before the wedding. She was too afraid to call the wedding off 'cause it would "disappoint so many people". She finally left him when he beat her up while she was pregnant.

The groom and Gorgi give every indication they are in a semi closeted relationship. The bride, be it pride, embarrassment, whatever, embraces this situation to the point of marrying this person.
Based on the opinions of her old friends (my wife, others) and "new" friends in Houston, she is not happy and hasn't been for years, but feels the need to see this to the end for some reason, as if she can fix it. It's suspected she's a closet alcoholic from a couple of instances. The several groups met at here engagement shower and everyone expressed concern.
The bride's parents are of the opinion that "he's a nice guy but we hope this ends soon" for the last 6-7 years, basically since Corgi entered the picture.

It sounds like they have a bevy of great friends, especially your wife.

You just described thirty percent of all marriages.

Could be. I don't care. This post is a passive aggressive protest on my part. I'm tired of hearing about this sham.
I'm not saying bride's name, but there are plenty of clues. Groom is from Oklahoma originally.

Is the bride attractive?
Posted on 10/21/14 at 9:34 am to Ghostfacedistiller
Not an obvious one, like a same sex or greencard marriage.

I've been the third wheel in one of these, except I was the bride's side project
she all but knew he was gay, but was in deep with his family and OH YEAH he was very loaded.
so, she took the vowes a few months ago. got the new lexus SUV, about 2.5k ring, and a honeymoon in Bora Bora.

Mr. Gambini, that is a lucid, intelligent, well thought out argument.
