With their pregnancy or their wife’s pregnancy? Went to my wife’s appointment this morning and after an ultrasound they told us they were admitting us due to this. First pregnancy so it’s a ton to take in. Baby hasn’t grown like he should and is 26.5 weeks measuring at 1 pound 10 ounces.

Seems to be uncommon but just have a million things running through my mind and was wondering if anyone knew someone who went through it.

Joke removed. Only read the title.

Sorry. Hope it works out.

Don’t google anything, list your questions and ask you doctor. Stay positive, whatever you are feeling your wife is feeling it tenfold. Put on a strong facade for her until you learn more concrete details from the doctor.

Can be caused by stress, hypertension, & high BP. It affects the umbilical cord & the baby receiving the nutrients it needs. All I know about it, other than, it's very serious & she should do exactly as the Dr says.

ETA: I agree, don't Google it. It'll worry you more. Just listen to the Dr, do as he says, & be strong for your wife.

It is a serious condition which I’m sure your doctor has informed you. I’m throwing up a prayer for your family. Listen to the doctors and be a support for your wife.

I have no idea what you're going thru brother but am praying for you and that baby. It's a damn shame that so many people don't understand the miracle that is birthing a child. I thank the Lord every day that mine were happy and healthy

Thank y’all. Just a ton to take in today after being told everything was perfect the last 6 months and then bam she’s getting admitted. I appreciate the input and am just now really processing it.

Praying for you, your wife and child. As an aside, it seems a little awkward when I pray for a message board handle like “AUcs13”, but I know He gets it. You’ll be good man.. stay positive.

This can be treated, they’ll get the baby nutrients and get the weight up sufficiently enough to safely deliver. Our 1st child came 6 weeks early and weighed 3.2 pounds. Stayed in NICU for 5 weeks until it weighed 5 pounds and could maintain its body temp safely. The baby had some digestive issues when we came home but once weight got above 7 pounds those problems went away.

This was +25 years ago and medicine has advanced leaps and bounds since then.

I am not familiar with this condition but prayers for you and your wife.

Google relaxtion techniques and try to help combat her anxiousness if you must google something.

We are currently 28 weeks along in a high risk pregnancy and she has battled placenta previa and other placenta concerns from the start, the kids were similar size two weeks ago but doing better now. Listen to the doctor and try not to let your stress get to the mother. Prayers sent, good luck.

My wife is a NICU nurse and has more stories then I can count of babies she has taken care of that were well under 1lb at birth. All went on to quickly put on weight and go on to lead happy healthy lives. We get pictures weekly of babies she has taken care of celebrating another milestone or birthday or preschool graduation. Its scary to hear about a condition like this, but the good news is that your little one is already past the 24 week milestone and is a viable pregnancy and well above weight we hear regularly hear from NICU nurses. Now that they have identified the problem treatment progresses fairly quickly and then tend to put on weight fairly steadily.

From a quick conversation with my wife she said that a 9lb baby at 40 weeks probably is less than likely but a very healthy 5.5 to 7lb baby is more likely than not.

It happens, first ultrasound with wife 2 years ago and the walls were thin and we could hear the physician next door explaining about how their baby wasn't growing enough.

Y'all do exactly what your physician says and pray for the best.

I'll pray too. Best to you and yours.

No experience with that condition, and it sounds like potentially a serious scenario, but modern natal/prenatal medicine is incredible. Very high success rates for a lot of situations. My younger sister recently had twins, and she went into labor at 28 weeks. They were able to delay it a bit, but those boys ended up coming just shy of 30. It was almost 2 months in NICU, but they are home now, healthy, and growing strong.

As a first time father of a 4mo old little dude myself, it is an amazing experience to meet them and watch them discover their world. Hoping for the best for you, wife, and baby. It might be a bumpy road ahead, but those tiny little humans are a lot tougher than they look.

This is a very complex issue.
Typically will be associated with other issues (high blood pressure particularly), but often times no causative factor is identified.
Contrary to what another poster said, it cannot be treated.
If they are able to identify a causative factor, treating this will be beneficial.
It will be monitored very closely, and they will try to keep her pregnant for as long as possible. How long she stays pregnant will depend on a number of factors. the most important factor is the blood flow in the umbilical cord, which will be measured by Doppler, probably daily.
Your baby will likely be born prematurely, which is not ideal. However, the baby will receive immediate critical care. Neonatal critical care is constantly progressing, and they are doing amazing things with these tiny humans.
Listen to your doctors and ask questions.
like another poster mentioned, be brave for your wife(even though you are probably more scared than you’ve ever been).
Godspeed.
Sounds like you are in good hands.

We experienced IUGR (Intrauterine growth restriction) during my wife’s first pregnancy; which I believe is similar with maybe different underlying causes. Our daughter wasn’t growing as expected and we had to have doc appointments every week to monitor her. They ended up inducing at 37 weeks; she was 5 lbs 3 oz and dropped to 4lbs and some change the following day. My little angel was completely healthy but just tiny.

She’s almost 4 now and in the ~80th percentile for height and ~60th for weight. No development concerns at all and is very intelligent (I’m sure all parents think their kids are smart )

I bet your little baby will be just fine. They might come out tiny but prayerfully will gain the size they were missing after delivery

Prayers for sure. Pregnancies are so scary because you always think the worst and can’t see anything going on in there. Hopefully a few years from now you’ll be telling some other baw that you guys went through it and everything turned out great.
