Most people they stop have people openly drinking on the boat. I think that is more than enough to have them checked.

I lived on a river in FL that intersected with the intercoastal and the inlet, we had no less than 6 different enforcement agencies patrolling the water 24/7

It's pretty ridiculous in the Daytona/New Smyrna area.

they were pretty aggressive where I lived, especially with kids on jet skis, it was usually the old life jacket/safety gear check, they were dicks without a cause, oddly enough, the biggest pricks were the FL wildlife patrol

I can agree with that.

Once me and my dad were stopped heading out of the marina, neither of us were drinking and no fishing equipment was visible. They asked for life jackets, fire extinguisher, licenses, etc. It rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm not advocating getting shite faced and driving the boat(at least I don't think I am,) but they take things to the extreme down there

I know a guy that was fishing with his wife and the game warden pulled up to check his boat. He looked in his cooler, saw the beer and asked him how many he had. Man says, "I have had 1 or 2," and his wife shot back, "Yeah, like 1 or 2 six packs."

She was unaware that you could get a BWI

We were fishing a reef about 30 miles offshore and they made me feel like we had 30 kilos of coke in the hull.

Up in Michigan, you'll be bass fishing a quiet cove and they'll come flying through in their bay boat, tie off, check everything while being a dick, and then fly away.

I think they just suck in general.

Wtf really?

Kids on waverunners are dangerous as hell. I know because I grew up riding my uncles when I went to his place on the river. I didnt even have a drivers license and I was flying down the river on a waverunner doing almost 60mph. Got checked plenty of times by the police and patrol for pfd and documents on board, along with the kill switch being in working condition. As a kid, I thought it was stupid because they just took away 5 minutes of my river time, but holy shite to say they are being dicks with no cause is absurd.

One wrong move by a kid on a waverunner can cause multiple deaths, especially if pfd's arent being worn. I run over a person in the water that fell off their tube/skis or I go flying in the trees and knock myself out and drown.

I firmly believe that the guys out their patrolling arent there to be dicks like a lot of street cops are. Plenty grew up around the waterways and know how dangerous it is

a sixteen year old kid, properly trained to operate the ski, that has grown up on the water(my son,) and is the only ski out on the river at 7am, leisurely cruising, does not need to be stopped 3 times by three different dick heads in 90 minutes, can't speak as to what you were like

all of this means nothing because how are they supposed to know that? all they see is a teenager on there.

Yea thats a little ridiculous but you said the waterway is heavily patrolled so it shouldnt be a big surprise. I was rarely out there when the river was completely dead. Sometimes in the evening before sunset, it seemed like I was the only one out there for miles.

Were they harassing him or just a simple stop and check?

you must be a cop if you think any of that is OK

BTW: I just happened to be out that morning fishing for bait and witnessed the last of these stops

How does one actually get one of these anyway. Listening to the radio this evening and an attorney was advertising he could represent you in matters like this. Is this just as bad as a DUI/DWI?

Jeez. You can't possibly be serious?
You ain't from around these parts, huh?

Its still a kid. No harm in making sure he knows what he is doing or making sure the equipment is working properly.

Well you said you have 6 different agencies patrolling the water 24/7. Should it be that big of a surprise that one day your son got stopped multiple times?

you must be a cop if you think any of that is OK

How did you get that out of me asking you a question?

Does this validate anything or have any relevance to the conversation? No.

You seem to just make assumptions, throw in random comments, and have no organization to a debate/argument. Carry on

I have a camp on the Tenn-Tombigbee waterway. My camp is in MS in a wet county. Across the river is a dry county in AL. The river is patrolled by both MS & AL wildlife officers for several miles since the river is the state line. If a MS water cop stops me it's legal to have beer, but if an AL cop stops me is illegal.

An AL cop stopped me one time and I had beer on board my pontoon boat. I had to pour it in the river and then he asked me if had been drinking. I said a few. He said did you finish high school cause I going to ask you a question to see if your drunk. I told him I had finished high school thinking he was going ask me to do some Algebra or something He had me count backwards from 99-92 which I did and he left.

And you sound like one of those parents who will always rescue your son anytime he has a problem.

I bet if he crashed the ski and hurt himself but there was no aid in the area you would be filing suit for no one saving your responsible boy.

You got picked apart on the internet. Stop being so sensitive.

negative, my boys were water babies, they were raised on the water and around boats, docking 40-60 foot boats as 10-12 year olds, fueling them, cleaning them, we taught them GPS and they'd drive the boat to the Bahamas, you couldn't be further off to figure me as a helicopter parent

I did perform successful CPR on my oldest son after drowning however, no suit filed though

nah, not at all, just some dumbass that feels bad about his ineptitude, and if I remember right, you live in Ft. Worth, so it's doubtful that that you know what the FL water Nazis are like(and how good kids can be with watercraft down there)
