Buddy of mine said the same thing. the craft brewery scene around the Seattle area isn't bad either.

It's insane. That is where my friend lives that I go see. I love being able to walk down to the little town area and over to the sound, etc.
I was up there this past summer and I've never seen a city with the amount of construction/renovations going on EVERYWHERE. From downtown out through the small neighorhoods with commercial and residential.

I've only been to Portland once and that was very briefly like 10 years ago. All I know about Portland is the beer scene is phenomenal and hipsters
Seattle has more and better jobs and the Olympic Peninsula might be the most beautiful area in the lower 48.

Don't worry about the rain, it's a stiff dew in the Miles vernacular. Mainly mists/drizzles, Seattle gets less annual precipitation than much of the Southeast. The cloud cover is near constant in winter, but it's not nearly as bad as some believe.
If you like larger cities, Seattle is the best IMO particularly if you also like outdoor recreation.

Yeah, it's more the lack of sunshine than anything that I think gets to people. I have three cousins that got out of there after growing up, but went back because they love the outdoors activities. The only downside is the cost and it takes a long time to get across town since everything is so spread out and traffic sucks.

I'm not going to argue with you because I haven't been to Seattle yet, but is it better than Denver in regards to a big city with lots of outdoor activities nearby?

Road construction there is horrible. Makes an already bad traffic scene even worse. Took me over an hour to get from Downtown Seattle (Belltown) to Redmond a couple months ago.

Have visited a fair number of cities in the US. Stayed there a week. All the beggars and dark misty skies aren't for me.

yes and its not close IMO
Seattle has everything that Denver can offer, plus being on the coast, so you can add all the kayaking, boating, etc
Denver just has better weather and a more centralized location

Easily. In addition to two mountain ranges within an hour, you have lakes, rivers, heavily forested areas and salt water.

If you crave sun, just drive across the Cascades.
I've spent a fair amount of time in Seattle and even when overcast, the weather doesn't keep you from doing outdoor stuff.

from our friends that lived there for 3 years, this was their negatives:
- cloud cover 9 months out of the year is depressing
- people are more abrasive and confrontational than southern people
- if you have family back in LA, you will spend all of your vacation time coming back home, instead of actual vacations
and then the normal for any big city...cost of living, traffic, etc
