Anyone ever been an Adjunct Professor?

Through some contacts, I have been approached as possibly being a adjunct at a local college.
I was a TA in grad school so I have some level of teaching experience.
Anyone ever done it? Was it worth the time?

Yeah, I get a discount at the UREC and get to hang out afterwards with kids almost half my age

If you have the time for it I would. Good way to get your PDHs.

Good deal, I haven't been told what it pays yet. But a little extra scratch would be nice.

I do it now. Not bad for some easy side money.

I did. $40/hr.
Had fun. Lot more work than you think preparing shite though. Good luck

Heck yes. Best side gig ever. And you can do it as long as you can make it to class. I plan to be an 80 year old cracker teaching 18 year olds Life Span and Development.
Its $2500/3 hour class here. Grade a few papers and you are putting in average of 4 hours a week for a 10 week class.

We had an adjunct in undergrad who taught one 2 hour course each week, both in Spring and Fall. She was making 20k.
ETA: she may have been an associate professor, rather than adjunct faculty. I'm not certain her exact title, but she was a full time physician, too.

When I was a younger dude working at a big firm, a bunch of us staff guys used to talk about doing this, and the trouble that would have followed us.

I taught at LSU S and at a private liberal arts college in Texas. I really enjoyed the experience. I was just out of school when I taught business law at the private college, and I had a blast. I sponsored a fraternity and a sorority. I participated in quite a few school events.
Teaching at night at LSU-S was also enjoyable. The students were of a solid quality.
If you aren't doing it because you think you will enjoy it, don't do it.

If you are doing it for a reputable university such as LSU or one of its satellite campuses, it's a pretty decent thing.
If you are doing it for some outfit such as University of Phoenix, be prepared to be treated like shite. They not only tell you what you are going to teach, but they are going to tell you HOW to teach it. If you get an inch off the chalk line, they will harass you to no end. Many of the students are there because they cannot get into a state university (UOP has open admissions). You essentially spoon feed them because UOP wants to hang on to them until they have exhausted their student loan benefits, then they will toss them like a $3 whore. The degrees are meaningless at most places. Their hours will not transfer to a legit college or university. They are regionally accredited, but they got very creative in how they got there, and I really think that they should have their accreditation pulled.
Now back to the state universities, they allow you academic freedom, you have a better class of students since most campuses are selective admissions now, with the exception of the community colleges. You are treated with respect, and it is actually an enjoyable job.
I have taught adjunct with the state universities for years and have always enjoyed it. I taught for UOP for a brief period of time and didn't enjoy that at all - and left.
Hope the info helps.

Lot of variance in the pay depending on school. My older brother does, he's a CPA and has an MBA. He seems to enjoy it and makes pretty good money. I have a coworker who does it at the local University and she doesn't make a lot of money and will probably stop after the summer semester. I think she only teaches one class.
