Anyone else sign up for Flood Insurance today?

Emailed my insurance agent this morning and paid my flood insurance after having cancelled it 2 years ago because a flood would "never" happen in my area.
I got a very good scare this weekend, and luckily didn't flood. My home is near the corner of Goodwood and Marlbrook in Sherwood Forest and the water steadily rose about 3 feet in the street (which didn't come close to touching the elevated homes in that area, but was enough to have me very worried).
Just for my peace of mind, I will never not have flood insurance now living in SE Louisiana.

I didn't have it. No one can shame me more than I have myself for the past 3 days... Horrible feeling. I suck.

YOU REALIZE THERE IS A 30 DAY WAITING PERIOD, BEFORE THE POLICY GOES IN TO EFFECT
Posted on 8/15/16 at 4:39 pm to LSUZombie
and remember it is a 30 day wait on flood if you purchase it at a time other than your closing on the home
Do not wait until the next storm is approaching to attempt to buy

My parents did not flood but were told they can not sign up until after hurricane season, december 1st.

Unless it is needed by the mortgage company.

Dumb question, but do all insurance agents give flood insurance? I thought only some can. I am worried if I ask my insurance agent he may sell me something from another agent and take a commission.

It's all through the NFIP (national flood insurance program) and administered by FEMA.
Your insurance agent can def provide you coverage. If not, look for another agent.

thus the second half of my remark
mortgage is going to require you to have flood, the 30 day wait can be waived if purchased on the same day as the closing (which the mortgage co will require) if you are in a required zone,
however, chances are if you are looking for flood coverage now and you are not buying home, you are in a non-required zone and the mortgage company does not require flood.......you will be waiting the 30 days

Is your family safe?
Did anyone get badly injured?

got a very good scare this weekend

Of course I realize this. No reason to yell.

Felt the same way. My dad was the compassionate figure while I worried about my home. My mom let me have it.

No but then again I'm not an idiot, I'm in a no flood zone and still have it.

I did the same thing. I've marked 12:01 am, September 14th on my calendar (the minute it becomes active).

This should be the norm, it is relatively inexpensive if you do not live in a flood area.

Ellishughtiger, that's not true. You should call another agent. You can get flood insurance now subject to the 30 day wait. You do not have to wait until after hurricane season.

Maybe a stupid question, do I just call my normal homeowners agent and add it on or what?
