Anyone else getting a plethora of out of state calls thar hang up?

In the last few months, we've been getting calls at the office from out of state numbers that hang up when you answer (or they'll ask "may we speak to (first name of someone who's here)" then hang up when they answer.

When I google the numbers, there are similar call reports about hang up calls.

Any idea WTF is up with these calls?

I work for a telecom company. Post up your phone number and I can tell you where they are coming from

We get them on our home phone and cell phones. I guess the gubment did away with the Do Not Call list.

Ahhhhh, more like a profusion, a surfeit, a superfluity even. Not really a plethora, though.
