If so, is there a method to completely blank your thoughts? Particularly with deep tissue work.

if you're getting a deep tissue massage and you're worried about getting a boner i think you should look into masochism, generally

Massage can be a great extension of meditation. If you are interested in becoming more mindful and present, look into meditation techniques. I found one that works for me that I do for 2-3 minutes every morning. Some people like to do 10-15-20 mins, but I am way too ADHD for that. So I did some research and some practice and found a routine that works for me.

Once you have your meditation down, then tell you massage therapist you want to go to the treatment room a few minutes early to practice your routine. Then begin your massage.

I get one every week and just think about random shite... never popped a boner yet. BTW, the lady that massages me said it happens all the time and it is no big deal.

If by "professional" you mean Asians speaking broken English who gladly tug you off at the sight of an extra $20 bill or two, then hell yes.

It was taught to me at a seminar at Onsite Workshops. So I cannot really link a web based program.

The key is breathing (you always hear this). But no one ever explained why. So the short issue is that breathing is involuntary. So are thoughts, concerns, anxiety, stress. Those things happen without us even summoning them into our head. They happen involuntarily, just like breathing.

So, you stop breathing involuntarily. You concentrate on your breathing. And make it voluntary. Purposeful. So, your brain then switches away from involuntary mode. And into voluntary mode. You only do what your brain tells you to do. Breath in. Breath out.

And the involuntary thoughts stop along with the involuntary breathing. Then, I imagine myself somewhere that has been a peaceful, happy place for me. And I go there. Breath in. Breath out. Do that for 2-3 mins. That's as long as I can stand.

It literally changes your brain. Not your "mind". Your brain. It changes your brain chemistry. Like, they can show you CT scans that demonstrate this. It's pretty cool.

There's more to it than that. I took a week long workshop at Onsite that focused on being mindful, present, and self aware. Meditation was a big part of that. And, finding and practicing a specific technique that works for you. It's not as simple as just being mindful of your breathing. Do your own research and lots of practice. Good luck!

Babies and dementia sufferers can do it, but congrats on your personal best.

Your version is with your mouth, I'm sure.
