I did a purge a while back -- got rid of people who I barely knew who annoyed me with status updates. Like this crazy broad who would either post pictures of whatever douchebag she was dating or whine about whatever douchebag she broke up with. Or the guy who beat me up in elementary school that would post in all caps and drop in racial slurs.
I've got a bunch of people hidden, including a close friend from college. The people on this list are folks that I like, but who constantly post about religion/politics.

The worst are:
- The people with the daily self-help statuses and quotes (usually attributed to the wrong person)
- Religious/political/current event idiocy
- People living their drama in public
- People who won't stop sharing random things (i.e. the pictures with text overlays about random things)
- People asking for free stuff ("any of you Little Rock peeps got a lawn mover I can borrow/have?")
- Humblebrags or overt brags ("check out the new ride!")

Guilty of too many sports or travel statuses

Sports is fine with me.

Travel is okay if it's like pics of the family or you're doing something fun like hang-gliding or learning to surf. If you're just humblebrag posting a pic of yourself tossing back a drink in St. Thomas, then dear Lord make it stop.

I only do that if the person posts a lot of stuff I don't want to see.

I had gotten up to about 200 or so. In what I call "The Friday Night Massacre", I deleted about 125 from that list--mostly people from high school. I hated high school, so frick them.

In the 3 years or so since I did that, exactly 3 of the unfriended have noticed and cared enough to message me and say "WTF?". All of them took well over a year to do so.

I also unfriended most people who are having more fun at life than me.

I quit getting on Facebook a week ago because I felt myself getting on every hour to only realize I didn't give a shite what was being posted.

How often do you get on here?

No, no point in doing a purge. In fact, the whole reason I have FB is as an address book for people from the past. I haven't posted a status update in years and I don't think I have any current IRL friends as FB friends.

I deleted my FB about a year ago. Best decision ever. According to FB everyone is happy, they all look great, their kids are perfect, and their vacations were fantastic. I call bullshite. Life isn't always shiny and beautiful some times it is hard and messy. And that is what makes it beautiful. Living in real life is far more fufilling than taking selfies to convince the world you are fulfilled.

Do yourself a favor and get off of Facebook. That website is becoming a disease.

FB is good for immediate family And close friends. Especially military families. I have about 20-30 "friends" on facebook

I actually did a mini purge of IRL friends that were just toxic friendships.

What's funny is that I have no contact with this one girl anymore(we used to hang out like every week). Haven't seen her in over a year...yet I'm still fb friends with her.

Honestly haven't felt the need to purge. I just ignore the overly annoying posts on there and realize that I'm guilty of doing the same thing sometimes(as are most people in here bitching about "annoying" fb posts).

I purged about 275 people before deactivating my FB recently.

Pretty much me as well. As I mentioned, it's only a few on the political end I've processed. I have friends on both aisles, who I'm cool with their posts, but these guys were just downright awful.

The last presidential election is actually the final nail in the coffin of my friendship with the girl I mentioned

Basically she posted that when choosing who to vote for she only picks Democrats, preferably women, who are non-white
