I went to Central Private in the late 80s. Our yearbook had a confederate flag on it. lol I'll have to try and find it.

Read up on the AISA in Alabama. Some of these schools have black students, but the majority of them do not. There were a few Indians and a Korean kid at the one I attended in elementary school. When the public school system in a city is over 99% black, let's be honest, white people aren't going to send their children there whether they're "racist" or not.

Now? No.

Had they not built the seg academies in the first place it wouldn't have been like that...you want to know how I know? Because there are some? folks non-minority who drive their kids to a different town to a public integrated school instead of their local 99% black school and local seg academy.

Do you think things would be better today if integration would have happened as intended and the private school would have never opened?

Why? What are they missing at those public schools? People who send their kids to private schools still pay local taxes that fund the public schools. If they sent their kids to public school there wouldn't be any additional money there. It would just be less resources available per child.

Education should be fully privatized.

Graduated false river academy in 98. Had a few European exchange students come and go along with a few taiwanese students, but never any black kids my 13 years there.

Drove past it the other day and saw it has been (somewhat) desegregated since then.

I did from 7th grade through graduation. Does the OP understand why honors classes and AP classes exist today?

My elementary school had no more than a handful of black children in the entire student body. I think I can remember 1 in the grade ahead of me, but I'm assuming there were more of which I am not aware. None were in my grade. My high school was probably like 80% white. The high school is in a parish that is about 60% black. So while I didn't go to any segregation academies, my schools were effectively segregated.

And you see this with people driving from Montgomery PS/ Lowdnes Co. to Prattville.
West Alabama towns send kids to either Thomasville HS, Demopolis HS, Greenville HS, Tuscaloosa City Schools which are fairly integrated.

Did the private school ever play the public school in any sports?

In the 70's they didn't play the public schools. Cedar Creek does play public schools now. River Oaks does not. Don't even know if Ridgedale is still around.

I don't think the schools I mentioned got started until after ALEXANDER v. HOLMES COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION in 1969. The schools didn't really integrate until after that. I lived in Mississippi back then. There were only two black kids in my grade until 1970.

I went to False River Academy in New Roads from mid 80's to early 90's. Graduated from there. There were no minorities when I was there, but there are a dozen or so now. The public schools in Pointe Coupee were horrendous at the time. All you had to choose from were FRA or Catholic, or some parents drove their kids to St. Francisville. We knew why the school was started and why there were no black kids there. The school and parish as a whole was pretty racist back then, that's gotten better now. The public schools are still garbage, but they have the new STEM Magnet school that is putting the hurt on FRA and Catholic. It's a public school but you have to maintain a 2.75gpa and have no conduct issues to get in. I don't see FRA lasting but 2 or 3 more years unless they make drastic changes to provide something the STEM school doesn't. I hate to see the school fail, but I don't know how they'll pull themselves out of the hole they're in. The elementary is the only thing keeping them afloat right now, as the STEM school doesn't start until 5th grade.

He defended a city that was burned to the ground. That city still exists. Regardless of the motives a city was under attack from forces of a different nation and he defended it. The city saw it fit to honor his efforts. Case closed.

There's a civil rights museum downtown if it makes you feel better

He's not wrong. I pay about 11k per year for my daughter's private school and still pay taxes for the public schools that we would never use because they are terrible

How do ppl look at Central Private as for as educational benefits? Good? Bad? On par with public schools in the area? How sheltered were the kids?

Also, Oak Forest Academy in Amite is prob due to white fright.

When did that start? My school played against all these in the 90s and 00s and we were in the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) Sucked driving to MS for district sports games.
