Just wondering how hard it is to get a contact that will actually help after having your eye mapped?

No, I've always used protection

That would be eye AIDS for anyone who clicked wondering what keratoconus was.

If you don't know what it is then you can't help me.

Yes I have it.
You can, but depending on how pronounced it is, youll probably need a hard lens.
If you're anywhere close Lafayette, Acadian vision associates on south college is the place to go.
If they can see me keep me seeing 20-25, they can help anybody.

The importation of live Keratoconuses into the United States is prohibited by U.S. Code Title 41, Chapter 131; Section 5, C.F.R., part 410.

Didn't they go extinct in the Jurrasic Period?

I have had Keratoconus for 40+ years and would be happy to share everything I know about it which is a lot after that many years. I can also recommend the absolute best Cornea guy in Houston. Send me an e mail at f_cook@sbcglobal.net and we can get in contact. Sorry I now see that you might not be in Houston area. I will still help if I can. Fred Cook

Yes I have it. Wear rigid gas permeable lenses and I see 20 20 in one eye and 20 25 in the other. It can be managed with the right fit by the right doc. Also I need good sunglasses to keep the light from hurting my eyes. I am 64 by the way and have worn hard lenses since I was 16

I'm in North Georgia and going to see a specialist tomorrow. Just wondering how many visits I'll have to have before it gets squared away

How hard is the fit? I was offered a great job but they require a DOT physical at 20/40 vision (I won't even be driving trucks). I have an appointment in the AM and the physical is in a week and a half. From what I've heard it's nearly impossible to get fitted correctly that soon.

I only have astigmatism. Sorry baw.
Posted on 11/4/15 at 9:17 pm to LSUTANGERINE
I doubt you will have working lenses in one week.
However most patients will see pretty well as long as the corneas aren't too steep creating a large amount of irregular astigmatism. Even in these cases a well fit hard lens can give patients 20/20 vision. Getting used to rigid lenses is a process but it's not that bad, hang in there keratinous can be treated and controlled.

I have actually never heard of this...really sucks that it strikes just as you are getting a good job offer, too.
Hang in there, man...it will all work itself out...

Funny story, no offense intended--I googled "keratoconus", cause I'm a nerd, and it looked like eye nipples to me (honest observation ). I then googled "keratoconus, eye nipples" and found out about the "Rose K Nipple Cone" contact lenses. They're a real thing designed for keratoconus.
I'd ask your doc about these contacts, they sound like they're money for your condition.
