Truth, my wife's dog is racist AF. He always barks at the little black kids when he is outside, but if it is a white family or kid he tries to love up on them.

I have two shepherds. One is a big arse teddy bear and the other one seems to have protective skills. Never been tested to actually see though

Not going to happen. A GSD's personality and protection training suitability is obvious within weeks of birth. Either it's there or it isn't. All three of mine were tested, only two were suitable.

Edit: I'm curious about yours. Even timid shepherds usually bark at home when strangers approach. Had him his whole life?

This is a terrible idea.

Buy a gun, an alarm system, and enjoy the nice dog. This way you're safe as can be and don't have to worry about the lawsuit coming your way when your formerly nice, incorrectly trained attack dog mauls some kid that it doesn't recognize after they hopped the fence to get their ball.

my two dogs bark pretty viciously when anyone comes anywhere near our house. It's enough to most likely scare those types of people that would want to rob my house. but if they just talked nicely to them and put their hand out to pet them, they'd invite them in and want to play. I've had friends come over and say the male was barking like he wanted to kill them until they went up to the fence and tried to pet him, then he turned into the happiest dog in the world.

They didn't become defensive like that until they were about 3 or 4 years old.

He should be responding at that age, but some dogs take longer to mature.

Try teaching him to "speak". Then give him the command when he notices people or a strange noise. Reward him w treats each time.

I've had him since he was 10 weeks. He's enjoys playing rough, but will relax and calm down at first command. He will typically give a bark or two, but you get the sense it's more for attention than as a deterrent.
