Sometimes I get really hot water from the sink and mix some salt in it, then gargle with it. It helps with the irritation.

Yeah, I never take cough medicine/cough drops. I usually go straight for combating the drip. Decongestant, or cold and flu medicine, mucinex, anything that applies to clearing up what is causing my congestion.

Wife and I just got over that crap. Actually last night was the first night I slept all night without waking up coughing. She went to the Dr and got some antibiotics and prescription cough syrup and had it for 2 weeks. I had it for damn near 2 1\2 weeks without going to Dr. I Took nyquil, robitussin, alka seltzer, cough drops, you name it. Would always be a lot worse at night. It sucks but will eventually work its way out and get better.

Man my wife and I have been rocking colds with coughs for about a week now. We both got cortisone shots last Thursday and Z packs filled Friday. Laid up all weekend. I was fine by Sunday but she still has a bad cough. Was shocked z pack didn't knock it out and know she's got the prescription cough medicine. That better work...

I just woke her up, layered her feet in Vicks Vapo-Rub and put socks on her. She hasn't coughed once and is now passed out. Interesting... Making some progress.

The shot has some merit, assuming it's steroids. A Z Pack is about as effective as a pack of M&Ms for a cough. Whoever prescribed that either doesn't know what they're doing or likes tricking people into thinking they feel better. And as far as the syrup, you're probably as good better off with honey and/or chloraseptic, other than that it won't knock you out. Granted, if you're getting a steroid shot, you probably need something to knock you out that night.
