Do you really need school for this job on a plant?

No. It helps. Sometimes it helps to know someone, sometimes it hurts.

If you have no plant experience, yeh it helps a whole lot. If your Pappaw worked at Exxon for half a century, you will get the secret handshake during the interview to let you know you are a lock.

A lot of common sense helps though

Applied for a job that is hiring but haven't received a call back yet. Stressing, I know it's a life changing job. 90k+/year

HR people sorting through database resumes can't see common sense on paper. When they see a PTEC degree listed on an applicant's resume, they punch a hole in the keyboard by hitting that "invite to interview" button.

Then how did you get hired Pepe?

Has anyone here taken the MSSC CPT cert test? Is there anywhere in Louisiana to even take these courses?

More important to know somebody.

Some plants require a process technology degree or 5 years experience, some don't.

Most plants are looking for 5+ years plant experience or a Ptec Degree.
Chances of getting on without either degree or experience are very slim.
Best way to do it without a degree is start to out with an operations based contractor and try to use that experience to get on as an operator at a smaller plant.
I'm finishing my 3rd semester in ptec now and looking back it was a great decision.
Curriculum isn't too hard, especially if you have some type of industrial experience.

I got my P-Tech degree awhile back and it was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I was lucky enough to get hired on at a LNG facility.

Are you guys exporting it or actually producing it?
Isn't this fairly new technology based off the low natural gas prices?

Well, right now we are just circulating the same gas. When construction is complete we will pull it off of the pipeline clean it and cool it down to -260 degrees.
