Florence and Rome were awesome, Milan sucked.

For our honeymoon we are flying into Rome then either going to Florence or Positano. From what I've read I would enjoy Positano more than Florence my only issue is the lack of vineyards in that area. Somebody help me make a decision.

Went to Florence, Assisi and Rome. Want to go back to Florence really bad.

quote:Go to Both! Those two are tough to pick from. Florence has "more" and Fiesole. But Positano is perfect for a Honeymoon and has Capri. Can't go wrong either way really.

Florence is close to a few other places too. You're not very far from Assisi or Pisa.
It's only 3 hours from Rome too IIRC

Try to get to Siena for those of you in this thread headed over there. An amazing small town in the middle of the country. On the way kinda by train from ROme to Florence.

Everything is 3 hours away using the trains there.

Florence and Venice are great. Walking around in Florence was really enjoyable to me. Just checking out the shops and the ridiculous amount of gold and Peruzzi leather shops. Also historical stuff in the main square like Dante's "tomb".
Venice is a tourist trap but there is so much to see there I really liked it as well. Also like the more laid back Italian lifestyle and how a drink at lunch or two is common and how local businesses close for a few hours in the afternoon.
I like to go party and pick up chics but I didn't really get to experience much nightlife wise so I can understand where the OP is coming from. After having been to Italy and spent some time there, it was great for that trip but I would prefer a Vegas trip right now given the choice.

Been to Italy 3 times. I have seen Rome, Florence, Pompeii, Pisa and quite a few of the smaller coastal towns (All are incredible, but particularly Portofino & Sorrento).
There is an incredible amount to see in Rome. The second time we went there , we took a tour (Rome Driving Tours was the name if I recall correctly). It was so worth it. We were picked up in a Mercedes van. The driver was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Rome and spoke damn near perfect English. For about $450 (split between 2 couples) we saw the Pantheon,Colosseum,Trevi Fountains,Circus Maximus,Piazza Novona,The Catacombs and several other attractions that you would never find on your own.The dude even cooked lunch for us at his brother-in -laws house. Took about 8-10 hours.
Anyway, good luck and I promise you will be surprised and awed by Italy.

When are you going brah? I'll be flying into Milan March 1st for spring break with my brother and sister. We're also going to see Rome, Florence, and Venice while we're there. I'll let you know what I enjoyed and what I didn't when we get back.
