I need some serious help. I'm trying to fix the driver side door on a 2005 BMW X5.I can't open it either handle so I took out the driver's seat and managed to partially remove the door panel to get access to the inside of the door. I tried to pull some part of the cable further down the line and it still won't open now it appears that the door won't lock and unlock with the button, but it will with the key. I'm not what the problem is now. How can I get it open?

sounds like the latch pin might be hung up somehow.

Cable isn't connected to it possibly.

Shot in the dark, but you will need to mimic the cable, the little white piece has slipped off or broke.

Why did you need to remove the seat to get the door panel off?

Because the door won't open and it was in the way. I still only was able to partially move the panel out of place as it's still stuck between the door and dash in the front.

That's what I was aiming for when I went behind the door panel. I can't really see much as the door panel is still on, but I can feel around. I manually engaged that little ball at the end of the cable and still nothing.

Good video, but I can't even get the door open. My problem is it won't open from inside or out.

Why did you take out the seat? There should be a rod in there that connects from inside handle latch or whatever to part where lock/unlock button connect to( or general area). Maybe the rod with white end came loose? Sorry, I'm tired and can't think straight right now to use my words or description better.

Eta: seriously, why did you take out seat? I can't think of any reason for that or am I missing something? You gonna have to completely take off door panel more than likely, not just partially. Although some vehicles you can get to latch rod without taking all the way apart but makes it a pain in arse.

the function of a door is very simplistic, until you get take that panel off and put your hands on it. can be a real PIA.

But why would it not work using the outside handle? I would think that the malfunction is on the latch side. (Like another poster mentioned.

What is so difficult, people. The fricking door panel is wedged between the door and the seat and dash. Right now, he can only get the back portion of the panel off, because the dash will not allow him to totally remove thebpanel. Just fricking think about it.

He asked for mechanics. The ot has a problem with everybody being an expert on everything.

Don't fricking reply if you don't know. I promise there will be a time when you will know the answer.

I know why you took the seat out, op. It's gonna be a bitch working with the panel in thst position. Sorry, can't help. I don't know how that latch works. Good luck.
